HI, As some people may know Im looking to move with my wife to Las Vegas in early summer 2015. We are interested in a new home. We are 57 and 62 yrs old. We are concerned about the noise NEAR the Nellis Air force base. Can someone give us advice about what is TOO close to live to the base? thank you sooo much Also we hear that North Las Vegas is not the best part of town. If we live way north is that ok as far as the neighborhood is concerned? Oh, we will spend about $250,000 on a new homes Thanks!

Airplanes fly over Las Vegas, every 30 seconds - 2 minutes, 24 hours a day. I have seen military jets take off from Mccarren. I have watched and heard f15s all the way into summerlin. (northwest vegas) Vegas is not a place to move if noise concerns you.

Default plane noise

I live near Ohare airport in the Chicago burbs. planes fly over our house all the time, but they are hi enough so that the noise is minimal. I just wondered if the jet noise was really bad in certain areas of Las Vegas. I sure thank you for your response and opinion. I had just posted that so your fast ! lol

The further you get from the airport and base, the higher the planes fly, but sometimes you can still hear them.

thanks EA I appreciate your responses ... I really do. I have no problem with some noise. Around OHare airport here, the houses shake alittle because they are right near the runway lol

It's impossible for us to know what noise level would be bothersome to you.

My parents live nr Hollywood and Bonanza which is within 3/4 miles of Nellis. Even after 20 yrs they love to sit and watch the air traffic. BUT the planes don't fly over their house so it's not bothersome. AND the traffic isn't nonstop, 24/7. The planes have a very specific flight path, heading either east or west when they leave Nellis. The only way to know if the noise level will be bothersome is to be at a home when the jets fly over .... the house might be directly under the flightpath, or, be far enough away that it's not bothersome.

I live within 4/5 miles of McCarran. I visited the house twice before I bought it so I was able to experience firsthand what the air traffic would be like. McCarran is lot busier than Nellis but I don't get any planes directly overhead so the noise isn't bothersome. The key for me is that I can have a normal conversation outdoors when a jet is flying by.

We live west of the base and they fly right over our house. they're neat to watch but are loud depending on the particular jet. They usually fly in groups of 2 or 4 . The noise is particularly bothersome during those red flag operations they conduct. The good news is that they dont normally fly during regular sleeping hours.

Used to live under McCarrans flight path and those jets were more bothersome to me especially during all the red eye flights going east between 10pm and 2am.

It is horribly loud - you should definitely stay where you are.

Is there a reason you are set on North Las Vegas?
250k would get you a heck of a nice house in a WAY better area of town..
