RC Willey carries tons of off shore. They sell the same stuff as the newspaper ads that come in the mail except RC Willeys is triple.

Example, few years back, i bought a dinette table (the one that looks like marble) at RC Willey… they had a huge sale on it.. regular $1499. on sale for $799. so i bought it… following week in the ads in the mail, same exact table - yes i checked for sure - $549.

i would not shop RC again.. incidentally the "clearance" center is more expensive than the stores..

Ethan Alan just opened in the new Summerlin mall. The other major players previously mentioned sell faddy, klitsy junk. LazBoy has some quality upholstered pieces if they happen to be your style.

Same thing happen to me.

Except I could have saved $300 on the same RC Willey dining set I saw at the Chinatown furniture store. Furniture is massive markup business according to Raiderman.

Ethan Allen isn't all that much better than the local crapola.

As far as I'm concerned, a dining room table is either a five-figure purchase, or a 100-hour project. Take your pick. Decent chairs take even more time than tables. The reason I have a wood shop in my garage is I cannot afford the kind of quality that I insist on.

My wife and I were in the same situation not too long ago. Came from Wisconsin and were having a hard time finding something nice.
We ended up at Walker by the World Market Center downtown.
Ashley was ridiculously overpriced for what you get.
Walker had a very wide variety to pick from and they actually took a ton of money off when we decided to package deal multiple items at once.

Side topic (Sorry I can't resist)... Which is worse... The aggressiveness of furniture people or the aggressiveness of car dealers?

My vote goes to furniture peeps.

we bought dining room furniture at Lazyboy, made by Kincaid in North Carolina. real wood, extremely heavy. beautiful pieces but wasn't cheap. Furniture is high margin business with extreme markups, but if you want quality , you'll have to pay.

You could check out Lane up in the northwest. We bought our sofa there and it's built like a tank.

We happened upon Bassett on Sahara today. Custom furniture is built in one of the Carolinas. Other in Vietnam. Custom looked pretty good.

we'll check out the others mentioned as time allows. Thanks everyone.
