I have been in Vegas now for 5 months and have found nothing to do....I am an Eastern Star OES PHA and an AKA but folks here just don't seem to be very friendly. This is so differnt from Detroit that I am considering moving t Chicago after my son finishes at Becker next year...If anyone has any ideas on where African American hang out please let me know. P.S I am single.

Thanks and have a wonderful New Year.

Go to meetup.com. There's a huge amount of activities in the area, from outdoor meetups to political activities to craft clubs to singles groups. I'm sure you can find something there that will suit you.

Bored in Vegas? I think you might want to try the internet for local interest groups. I'm a computer geek at heart and I found a good Linux users club that I found to be great to hang out with and learn. I'm sure you will find others with your same interest in this city.

Nope not from Cali I am from Detroit...regardless of it's problems there waas always something to do...now keep in mind I am African American so from what I see the population African American is very small. The strip is played out...and I refuse to spend money on those crazy clubs. So what I am seeing about Vegas is that its good to visit but live here nope.

My quote being from Cali was not gear towards you. It was that comment you made about people you encounter being rude

Yeah, I think I know what you mean about being African American in this city. I use to live in the Bay Area and Oakland was a good place for African Americans because of the large population there, I know Atlanta would be a good fit for you. African American populations here in LV is very spread out and not in just one area. There are tons to do like road trips and outdoor stuff (I like to ride my bike and go to the spring mountains and take day trips to CA and UT)

Why do you being African American have anything to do with your ability to find activities? Did Vegas re-enact the segregation laws since I left there? There are plenty of activities that you should be able to get involved in regardless of your race.

I have seen little of an active black middle class. I know a few here and in fact the immediate neighbors are black. But middle class blacks here are pretty much integrated into the overall society or, as iis the case next door, part of a black social circle out of Los Angeles or somewhere else.

So i suspect the options are to sign up with the middle class in general, make a tie with an out of town black social group or move.
