So you have to look for Natural Gas gas-stations (by now you know where they are)...so what is the method of delivery on these automobiles?

We all know if you were to buy a Tesla, and drive to L.A., a person would have to find a charging station somewhere around the 260 mile to 300 mile range, pull over, wait at the charging stations 6 hours and go on....how is natural gas different than this?

A Tesla will get a 170 mile range off a 30 minute charge at one of their supercharger stations.

Am I the only one thinking that it all sounds like a total nightmare?

A fill takes two and a half minutes at the filling station. That's the difference. The apparatus looks like the stuff the propane guys use to refill propane tanks. If I went the home route of filling, it would take hours not minutes. That and the expense nix it for me.

I would imagine the guy scrambles to find a natural gas station when his fuel meter gets low. Probably been stranded a few times too is my bet.

No, only the uninformed "know" that.

The informed know that there are four supercharger stations behind the Chili's near the Barstow outlet stores, where you would add a 50-60 mile cushion (upon arrival in LA) with a 10-15 minute charge.

I refill when I hit 1/4 tank. (Fuel gauge works exactly the same as a normal car.) Haven't been stranded yet. But I have arrived at the filling station near the airport, discovered that it was down, and had to drive to Sunset Ave to fill up before.

I'm surprised a Cabbie isn't well aware of CNG. It seems like half the cabs in town run on it.

Also seems to me that the gas prices here in Vegas have reached relative symmetry with So/Nor Cal

Right now I'm paying $0.20 more at Chevron stations in Silicon Valley compared to say, the one at Charleston and Hualapai, $3.72 vs $3.91 for premium. The price gap at Costco stations is smaller, closer to $0.10. If memory serves, this is the smallest gap I've seen in some time. The gap has been more like $0.30 to $0.40 in the past. It's possible the larger gap has something to do with winter fuel formulations, and reduced supply of CA-spec winter gasoline (gap could be smaller in summer compared to winter).

A lot of the cabs in town are cng. Driving them, you can't tell any difference. I drove the gas powered escapes and cng escapes. No difference in drivability. We had to fill up, every day, at the end of our shift. The cng vehicles always took less to fill up.
