Folks,
We plan to spend 4 days in Vegas during the holidays and have reservations for 2 shows in the evenings already. So, we have 2 other evenings that are free, and 4 full days (except on 1 day we have an afternoon show).

We would, at the bare minimum, like to see all "must see" hotels/casinos on the Strip. I think I know some of them but if you could suggest others or even alter/correct/sort this list to make the best use of time, that would be great!

* Venetian (staying here)
* Mirage
* MGM Grand
* Bellagio
* Circus Circus
* Treasure Island

Main objective: Should be fun for a family of 3 with a 7.5 year old.

Anything else? Thanks!

Also, if someone could suggest a casino or two where I could play tournament style Texas Hold'em Poker for about $100 or so a game (buy-in), that would be great.

My budget is $500 total (wife won't allow more than that!), and want to atleast play a few games meaning, few tournaments, and as many games per tournament as possible (that is left to my skills, ofcourse)!

Any suggestions please!

My favorites are MGM and the Mirage. Try to grab a drink and game at Circus Circus for a tacky Vegas experience. You can play Tournament style Texas hold em at the Plaza downtown for a 20 buck buy in.

cool thanks! "Plaza Downtown" - is that the name of the hotel? or is that "Plaza" hotel in downtown Vegas (and not the Strip)? Sorry..

Go see the Luxor before they change the Egyptian theme to a Palms knock off.

Head over to Stratosphere...not in the best part of town...but you should be fine during the day. I suggest lunch at the revolving restaurant at top...it's less expensive (and crowded) than dinner and your family will love the view of all LV, including the strip. I believe a complete revolution takes about 1 hour, so you just barely notice it. I believe if you head to the restaurant level only (as opposed to the very top) you don't pay the elevator fee up...but I'm not 100% sure.

(PS...you might even catch a LV-legend...Bob Stupak...at the poker tables. Remember VegasWorld???)

With the 7.5 yearold I would head for geewhiz places. That leaves out the hardrock and Palms which are adult.

The list in my mind would be...

Bellagio
Mandalay Bay
Venetian
Wynn
Caesars Palace

That is the classy interesting places.

Then for the kidlet...

Circus Circus
NYNY
Stratosphere...you get a free up with a reservation at the restaurant. I would do lunch it is reasonably expensive. For the dinner money I would hit one of the classier places. The buffets are always a pretty good buy.

Note that TI is now TI and no longer Treasure Island. The ship fight is now more into rape and pillage of nice looking ladies than pirates. Clearly doing away with the kiddy bit. The ships are not operating at the moment. Anybody know when they come back on line?

Excalibur still into the family theme bit. Have a joust and all that.

Tropicana still has the body exhibit I think. If the kidlet is a boy it will make his trip.

I don't care for Mirage though perhaps some of the exhibits would be kid good.

The only famous thing about MGM Grand is its size...otherwise forgetaboutit.

Very useful, thanks! Okay, had planned on a day at MGM, will skip it now. So, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, and Caesar's Palace in addition to where we are staying (Venetian) and where we are headed to for a show (Wynn).

Do I need to make reservations for lunches and dinners? Or, can we just go there and decide?

You need a reservation at the Strato for the free ride up. Go for that one..everybody should see Vegas from the Strato at least once. If they let the kid on you should try the rides...different...but the kid may be too small.

My son enjoyed the carnival type games at the Excalibur as well as the Tournament of The Kings dinner show - knights jousting on horseback, combat, eating dinner with your hands... things a 7 year old boy would dig. The Luxor is very impressive, especially to a child. They have the Imax theatre, and an Imax ride. Also a pretty good arcade. Excalibur and Luxor are right next to each other. Mandalay Bay is right there as well and they ALL have an excellent buffet.
