So we went for 3 days. Immediately saw a gray cloud hovering over the city, much like here in Phoenix. (We drove). The city was packed with people, cars, pedestrians and they all seemed to be lost. Drove round and round and finally got to the huge LV Hotel and casino. Walked in and was amazed at the line waiting to check into the place, the 10 desk clerks and all the NOISE. Huge hotel and casino. Bad slots would not yield any cash (to me) but son in law and daughter immediately started winning. Big winnings too.

Rooms on the 20th floor. Got a great view and had good vibes about the place but everything was extremely expensive. Bottle of water in the room, $4.00. A little tube of lip stuff for my dry cracked lips was $4.75 in the gift shop. Did the Pawn Stars thing, but the "stars" were not interested at all in what I wanted to sell, after waiting in the line around the building to get in the door. Visited a bunch of other casinos and none of them would give me any cash either. Tons of guys betting on football and yelling for their teams in the Playbook.

Was going to stop at the dam but again, line of cars waiting on the mountain was waaaay too long. Time to go home. Saw a police do not cross yellow line tape and whole group of people in front of the LVH parking garage. Body on the ground. Officer said "He jumped." Well, in a way, I can imagine why.

Made it home in time to celebrate NYEve at home. Next year will try somewhere else besides Vegas.

What did you expect? Seriously? Stayed in Phoenix and 4 bucks is cheap for water in the room. Sell something at the Pawn Stars shop.. watch the show, it tells you how to submit an item of interest... LVH has one of the biggest sports books.. so what did you expect...

Line to long for the Dam.... it's usually double during the high season.

The body... if i even believe you.. it happens anywhere ... you just happened to be there...

Next year try somewhere else.. that's fine... LV is still one of the largest places visited.... and you will spend more elsewhere....

Oh.. how much was your room... it will be double or triple anywhere else.

Las Vegas is not for everyone. And did you really expect to win on slot machines?? Thanks for your contribution, but perhaps somewhere like Naples, FL might be more up your alley. Las Vegas is high energy, lots of people, definitely not a place to "relax and unwind". And yes, other than the rooms, the strip is going to be pricey. You're paying for us not having income tax. Thanks!

You realize that's how all the casinos get built. EXPECTING to get paid is a recipe for disappointment.

If you hate all those things, and knew you hated all those things, why on Earth would you come to Vegas?
It's one of the busiest cities on Earth, it's a tourist attraction.

My wife and I were in Las Vegas between Christmas and New Year's as well. We had a great time.

I think it takes several trips and some determined exploration to learn what one likes to do in a city with so many available options. And, finding out what you DON'T like about Las Vegas is just as important.

Part of having a successful trip is not only learning where you like to go, but also learning when it's a good time to go there. Some people like crowded holidays and busy weekends as the city has a vibe that is palpable. But, if you want to get in and out of major attractions with no lines (and at reduced costs) it's best to come to Las Vegas when things are on the slow side.

So, do your research. Explore Las Vegas when you get a chance. And, use what you learn to help ensure future trips meet your expectations.

Bill

When it comes to saving money at your hotel there are ways to beat the $4.00 water. Just go to the grocery store before you check in or you can go afterwards (there are grocery stores nearby since you have a car at your disposal). Pack a case of bottled water or what ever you need. When I go on a trip I always bring those little things that make me comfortable so I wont have to spend $$$ on those little creature comforts. If you do not like long lines you can always come on a weekday or time of year when there is nothing going on (cheaper rooms too). Since you have a car, you should try to explore the casinos off the strip and see where the locals hang out.

When I am there I always go to Walgreens and buy the 99 cent gallon jug of water and ONE personal sized bottle of water, then refill as needed. I'd never buy anything other than souvenirs in a hotel gift shop. Too expensive
