Getting hard to find. We have a friend with a 1974 BMW 2002tii with Kugelfischer Mechanical Fuel Injection. Would not pass smog due to high CO2's. A friend of a friend has a service station in Boulder City which is both smog test and repair certified. He explained to the owner that I am well versed in Kugelfischer systems and need a real time exhaust readings to make adjustments.

The young guy who's bay I used was quite put off when I pulled in and the boss said "He'll make the adjustments". Opened the hood and started making fine tune adjustments based on a number of variables. The young man quickly realized realized this is no OBD2 system.

Long story short the owner of the shop said he has many customers with early carbed/mechanical fuel injected engines and no place to send them. He mentioned bug's specifically. No one left who understands or wants to take the time to work on them.

I will see a guy next week who, if there is anyone reputable in the valley he will know them. I'll report back after I talk to him.

You sure?...

Vehicles Requiring Emission Testing
Your vehicle will need to be tested if at least one of the following conditions apply:

You drive mainly in the urban areas of Clark or Washoe counties.
Your vehicle is gasoline powered, or diesel powered with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) up to 14,000 pounds.
Your vehicle is a 1968 model or newer.

I bet Airics is referring to Classic Plate Registration:

Vehicles 25 years old or older are eligible for a Classic Vehicle Exemption meaning no smog test:

Vehicles registered with Classic Vehicle, Classic Rod or Old Timer license plates and driven 5,000 miles or less per year are exempt from emissions testing.

A friend, Phil Dase, is a former VW specialist. He works at one of the Big O Tire Stores now, but I'd have to find out which one. I'm sure he would be my go to guy if I owned a VW.

Awesome! Love the 2002s. My favorite car OF ALL TIME. I've owned a few 02s but not a Tii (I'm jealous ). Anyways, after talking to a few 2002 guys over the years the consensus is that there are only a handful of mechanics in the whole country that know how to repair/adjust the Kugelfischers. One is Jack Fahuna who owns JF Pro out of Van Nuys, CA: BMW 2002tii
This guy knows his 2002s! (O=[]=O) Click the 'Services' tab and then click 'Kugelfischer Injection Pump Rebuilding'. He has rebuild kits for them. Check it out.

-Cheers!
