Hey, tell me about it. I used to be a hod carrier and carried four a time for the brick masons. I slept like a log at night.

Default Need Permit for block walls?

Do we really need a permit for building block walls on the property line? My neighbor and I wanted to have a low block walls. I personally don't think we need to get a permit??? Your feedback would be nice.

Thanks!

The price you're getting is very reasonable- especially since you're talking about such a small quanity- it's more of a hassle for a mason to have to come out once to dig the footing, again to pour it, and again to actually lay the block when your only talking about 50' of wall. I know it seems like a lot to you, but most masons are used to doing several hundred feet of wall at a time, so your job is small to them.

Regarding the permit, that depends on whether you're in the City of Las Vegas, NLV, Henderson, or Clark County, as the requirements in each vary. In general though, they normally require permits for anything other than a small pool equipment wall or the like- I'd be willing to bet that you need one for a 4' wall.

I am guessing you need one (a permit) for the wall...if they are not properly designed (specifically, the foundation), they can easily collapse. Part of the cost may be putting in a foundation...is that in the bid?

Any such effort requres a permit. Practically if it is visible from the street you best get one. Normally gotten by the contractor as part of the job.

Remember you need a permit here to change a water heater...how is that for silly.

That is silly! But there may be some justification, due to water conservation? Maybe they just want to make sure that these things are the legal limit flow, or hooked up properly and not draining a precious commodity through the garage and down the driveway???? I don't know...just trying to figure why a jurisdiction would require a permit?
