then you really should get out and see more of the place you chose to live. i am curious...do you take advantage of the positive things people have mentioned here? do you go out and enjoy the deserts or the mountains (you know...those big things right next to us...hint: the ones that go up are the mts)

you agree that the weather is too hot 4-5 months of the year? funny, i was only here about a week and i adjusted to 110+ weather..yeah it is hot, but duh...it's a freakin' desert...what do you expect?

and really, won't someone think of the children! oh my, if you live here you will actually have to TALK to your kids! i mean can't they all find out about stuff on the internet like everyone else? as for keeping your teens focused on college...if they don't want to go, they aint gonna go...when they are 18 they can kinda do what they want. if you want them to go to school, enrich their minds when they are young...don't wait until their teens.

the OP makes a lot of claims about lack of community participation and struggling non-profits...do you participate in anything? have you donated to any non-profits?

and entertainment - really? i guess we have vastly different opinions on this. i have seen two local bands free of charge (not the greatest bands, but decent and entertaining) not to mention random music at first friday. mix master mike (dj for the beastie boys) is in town on tuesday..free admission w/ a BB-themed costume.

how sad is it that i have only been here for a couple months and have enjoyed far more of what this town has to offer than you have (how long have you been here?)

Yeah--this constant ragging on Las Vegas gets old. Do people get paid to haunt these message boards and rag on LV? Is this some sort of bigger-picture strategy to temper the influx of potential residents?

I think that some people move to LV think that it's some sort of American Utopia. That it's without any problems. It's an illusion that is reinforced by the sparkling glitz and glamor of the casinos.

It's not paradise. It'd be foolish to think so--the city has its problems just like any major city (but then frankly...even paradise probably isn't paradise anymore). So what? You have to factor that into the game plan.

And let me tell ya...if you think Vegas has issues might I direct you to some more...ummm..."interesting" places: Cleveland. Baltimore. Detroit. Milwaukee. St. Louis. Miami. Los Angeles. The list can go on.

Jim,

Another well spoken post. Thank you.

Once again, this thread is started by someone who has no clue about Vegas, thinking that Vegas consists of gambling, prostitution, and crime. The true fact is that Vegas offers so much more, if people like the OP would look at the forest before the trees, they would see that Vegas has tons of things to do outside of gambling. Plenty of soccer fields, softball fields for both adults and kids. The parks in town are jammed every night with kids playing roller hockey, basketball, riding skateboards, etc.

I haven't had any issue playing golf (which I do twice a week). I have teed off as early as 6 am and as late as 2 pm to which the heat is not a problem. I'll gladly trade 110-degree heat with only 8% humidity versus what I left behind in DC playing in 90-degree heat with 65% humidity. There wasn't a piece of clothing coated in sweat, Yuck

Since I've gotten in town, I've seen 2 concerts. The first was at the Cannery with Starship and Survivor. Great show, the lead singer for Starship is Stephanie Calvert who is a Vegas native and a customer in our shop, she's very nice. The second was at Mandalay Bay with Foreigner, Styx, and Def Leppard which was a great show. Plenty of acts come through town of various genres.

There is so much to do, and not enough time!!!!!

Didn't Joni Mitchell say that? They paved paradise, and put up a parking lot?
Except in Vegas' case it was a casino! LOL!
