I'm not sure about cheapest, but from what you said you are probably looking at $35 for a cab ride. It is certainly the easiest and least stressful option as you simply catch the cab at the airport and get dropped off right at home. We have found this site to be quite accurate: TaxiFareFinder Las Vegas, NV - Estimate Your Taxi Cab Fare, Cost & Rates

Hope this helps, there are of course other options but you may not save a whole lot and have to put in a lot more time and jockeying around (unless you go with the friend method).

I live about 8 miles from the airport and have taken a taxi home a few times. The fare usually runs about $35-40 including tip. I know they are not supposed to take the long way and there are remedies if they do, but one thing I always do is give the driver very specific directions to get to my home so as to avoid any unwarranted high fares.

There are also so many companies that are not allowed to take you anywhere except hotels from the airport. People told us you can wait at your residence for an hour to get picked back up to go back to the airport - if they show up at all or are permitted to go to neighborhoods! There are some cabbies on this site that can explain the whole "medallian" issue better. We're about 20 minutes from the airport and it just became easier (and more feasible) to rent a car using weekly rateswhen we are at our condo. To get around we can park at Sams Town and take the shuttle to the Strip or downtown so that we can have a drink or two without driving everywhere.

I am not sure where you live but I was in the same situation a few weeks ago. What I did was rent a car for a day on my way out. I had my boyfriend with me so we drove over to the airport car rental center and picked up a call the day before we left. We were then able to return the car and take the shuttle to the airport. On the return home I was by myself so I rented a car for one day but returned it to the North Las Vegas airport which is only 2 miles from my home. The day after I returned I simply dropped the car off and had a nice walk home. If I would have been thinking I could have put my bike in the trunk and rode it home. This time of year the walk was very nice. I used Hertz and used points for the first rental so the total was $4 and I paid the full price on the second which was $40. Even if I had to pay full price for both days this was still a lot cheaper than a cab which was estimated to be around $55 each way.

But I agree with the previous posts if you have a friend who would be willing to help you out it would be better. Give them $20 each way or treat them to dinner out one night when you get back. I have only been here a few short months so i didn't have anyone to ask. But I would be more than happy to help our one of my neighbors if they needed a ride. Helping our neighbors is what living in a community is all about. You never know when you will need a hand down the road.

Good luck.

Kim

While this may be an issue, we have never run into it. Outbound, I call the cab company the day before and make a pick up appointment. They have always been 5 or 10 minutes early, always on time and stress free. Coming back I have also never run into them trying to take a longer route. I suspect if they are delivering you to your home address, they figure you know your way around. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to say "take the 215 to 15S" or something like that to make sure, but I have not had to worry about either of these issues. I am NOT a fan of taking taxi's in general, but have found them to be the best and most trouble free way back and forth to the airport. Everything else just involved much more time and running around to save not that much $$. Just my experience.

How about getting a ride to a close casino, then try to get airport shuttle from there.Mt question is how the casino would treat you,if you are not staying there, just using it for a place to get on an airport shuttle
