The Fremont Experience is fun at night...just park close in...older part of town. There are shuttle buses that go to the shopping away from Vegas...I've done them, and wouldn't suggest it on only couple days there. I hope you are flying in at night....Nothing like seeing the Vegas lights flying in...Like a giant jewelry box...amazing view. Check the Stratosphere...if you like scarey rides, plus the top is like the Empire state building, wraps around observation deck...really worth the 5 bucks to go up that you pay if you aren't staying there. New York, New York has lots of things for young people..incl. roller coaster etc.
Mandalay Bay has a beach...I sent my daughter and her hubby there..They loved it. I hear some of the older hotels smell a lot like cigarettes...so avoid if you don't care for that.
Lots of good info online...Las Vegas Online Entertainment Guide - Complete information about Las Vegas Vegas is so much more than just gambling. Lots of families go there these days. Have fun!! And save some slot money for the airport slot machines....lol
It's $18, not $5

Excuse me Airics for saying the Wicked Spoon was at Aria. I should know it is at the Cosmopolitan. And what ever out of towner said it is not more expensive here at Christmas, "excuse me," but I live here, 365 days a year. The well known buffets all go up on the holidays. I believe it will even show that, if you check their websites. When I asked the cashier last year why the increase in price, she said they add a lot more special items on the holidays. I saw nothing different.

The MGM buffet is nothing to write home about. Very run of the mill; quantity not quality.

Both those shows are dark the 24th and 25th, and I would not be surprised if all the other Cirque du Soleil shows were dark those two nights as well. Better plan your trip for the 27th to 29th.

Edit: KA, Zumanity, and Zarkana have performances on the 25th, and a few others have performances on the 24th. If it matters to you what shows you can see, plan your dates around them.

OP here again. Thatnks a LOT guys! Wicked Spoon sounds like a must-eat! Now I've got to try it. The price for the Criss Angel show is just about $170/person for a good seat. I'm thinking it's like a glorified magic/illusionist show, so maybe I'll pass on him & try O or Ka. I've been to the MGM before to the David Copperfield show & eaten at the MGM grand Buffet before, but that hasn't been in a LONG time.

I'm thinking of staying at the Aria. I want to stay at one of the newest hotels & that one seems cheaper than the other new ones. Otherwise, which of the older hotels are the best? I might as well stay in the hotel where I'll see the show...maybe.

What site has the chepest airfare? I don't fly much at all, so I don't know much about the flight deals. I guess we can rent a car even though we're mainly going to be on the strip, right, but I guess we don't have to.

Is there anything OFF the strip that's worth going to?

Paris for breakfast buffet if you think you can put the food away. If you feel you have to do a buffet for dinner, Wicked Spoon will do fine. I still think you might like to treat yourself to just a nice meal at a nice place as opposed to buffet though. Also, Hash House A Go Go will give you mass quantities for breakfast or lunch probably a little cheaper than the buffets.

For cheap fun off strip a few miles, I like going to the pinball hall of fame. $5-$10 will get you through a couple hours there if you like that sort of thing.

For flights, Priceline name your own price is cheapest but you may travel the earth to go from state to state. Otherwise they're all pretty much the same. Heck, if you are really really adventurous you can book your hotel on Hotwire and if you do your research, you might be able to tell which hotel is Aria and get a better price for it. There are Hotwire and Priceline help sites for that stuff.

Thanks for more ideas. Yeah, the thing is, my BF is a HUGE breakfast person, so he'll want a buffet breakfast on a day or two. I, personally could skip breakfast & just eat dinner really.

Adding more detail to what I mentioned above, several yrs ago, my BF & I flew to Vegas just for the day & we still rented a car. We ate a buffet breakfast at the Rio, maybe only got a beverage at lunch, then had the buffet dinner at the MGM Grand right before seeing the David Copperfield show. But between breakfast & dinner, we walked the shops at the Venetian, walked the Fashion Show Mall, & went to Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, which to me was an overpriced disappointment because it wasn't that big. We also walked up & down the strip & wandered into a few various hotels. That was a fun day!

Any more comments on other buffets? I think you can't not go to Vegas without eating at a buffet once or twice or depending on how long you stay. I better lose several pounds before I leave for this trip, so I can make up for all the eating I'll do on the trip!

The best buffets are at Caesars, Bellagio, Cosmo, Wynn. Caesars will be most expensive but it is also the newest and will have the freshest food. It will cost you around $41 for dinner. Go during offhours like 3-4:30pm so you avoid the line. Also, the Caesars buffet will be excellent for breakfast and cheaper at $20. Nothing wrong with spending $5-$10 more on a good buffet.

My favorite shows on the strip: Comedy - Carrottop, Magic - David Copperfield, Adult comedy - Absinthe, afternoon show - Jeff Civillico or Mike Hammer.
