I find it a little sad as I have stayed at IP since 1982 probably once a year at least up until this July and I was looking for something great to happen to it. Yes, that history and Hitler's Mercedez limousine that was in the Car Museum in Imperial Palace is true. There is actually quite a bit of info on the Englestads. It wasn't too long after his death that Mrs. Englestad sold the IP. I heard a lot of true stories (or so he said) from a taxi driver back in the 80's who told me he didn't even like dropping people off there. On another note, I agree that the name is a little lame and I really wanted to see a new theme. Worst of all in the report in LVJ is the fact they aren't doing anything with the rooms...OMG....they of all things need some money thrown into them...Carpets, a/c that still come from units on the floor/wall that keep breaking down and are sooo loud, black stuff that comes up from the bathtubs, and just plain worn out rooms. I dare anyone to take a blue light into any of the Luv-Tub rooms they keep comping people for and making them think they are getting something special. We were comped 4 nites and picked one of these rooms a couple years ago and it was stinky, stains on carpets, and just horrible. We left after the first night as I was so grossed out and booked in to Wynns. I usually won't pay what Wynn's charges but I just felt so dirty I needed a bit of luxury after that one night..:-)

I'm not one to "nit pic", but that is one dumb name. Were all the good names taken?

+1 on that. So true.

I know "younger people things" like beer pong are being considered as events to do. They have started surveying people (imagine, customer opinion) on what types of things appeal to them and they'll make their decisions accordingly.
They already have the beer pong set up. Since O'Shea's is gone, I guess they will try to capitalize on that crowd. Not a great idea, IMO.

They should have went with Star Trek.

I miss themed hotels! I wish they had kept the name and just went with "chinese chic". There is a casino in Australia that has super swank modern "imperial palace" decor.

Instead it will just be another hotel lost in the sea of genericness

Maybe "3535" would have been appropriate then

What is it with Star Trek?

I'd never go to a Star Trek themed anything! When I was in middle school, a friend was a HUGE Start Trek fan (a female, yes) and wanted me to go see one of the movies with her. I did, and read a book. LOL (we sat near the screen, so I could see well enough) It was all I could do to stay awake!

They think college kids are swimming in disposable cash? Mountains of debt is more like it.

I agree. Keeping the Asian theme, they could have really done something cool with it!

Yes, but they don't seem to mind running up more to party.

The IP serves a purpose in being a cheap hotel with a good locationi on the strip. Other than that, it's useless. To really improve it, they need to nuke it flat and start from scratch. But that ain't happening any time soon.
