I needed a fast, low-stress way to get across town last week, so I took Alta. I had not been up that street for many years, and when I was younger I had no appreciation for history or architecture.

It really is a lovely street, and well worth the drive. I wanted to knock on doors and ask people if I could look inside those mid-century homes. Wouldn't it be sweet to be a young couple with the means and energy to fix up one of those older homes?

I lived in one of them [still own it] most are Sproul Homes andin excellant shape....[one you get down to the historic part they ae Tres Expensive] Youre now in the Rancho Circle area [altho OUT of the circle] The houses in the Hospital area are beautifl horse properties, sprinkles with dead casino owners homes....LACY is.....afordable....from Campbell East to Tancho is not....but in general I LOVE Alta from top to bottom and its a GREAT fast traffic free drive to down town

I like how different that area is compared to the rest of the Valley. Lots of custom homes. I hate when people complain about the "cookie cutter" homes all over the valley, yet when someone points them to older custom areas, they are not interested.

My favorite custome area is the neighborhood directly south of Sahara(mostly behind CarMax and to the east). Nothing looks alike back there. No matter where you are, each home stands out own its on.

O'Bannon is another beautiful street with custom homes that have been cared for (mostly). Thank you, Von for the pics.

It doesn't even need to be for work. Every time I go to the Smith Center I take Buffalo from Trop to Alta then take Alta all the way down to Grand Central. A very relaxing way to get to and from performances there.

My favorite house on Alta is an A-frame not far from UMC which has been very nicely maintained or restored. Even the houses in the more rundown areas on Alta look interesting to me. I especially like the ones with the windows near the peaked roof.
