Has anyone been to Oscars new restaurant on Fremont street and what was your opinion of your experience. Does any diners dress for the restaurant in 20's and 30's clothing.

I think there's been a thread about it shortly after it opened...didn't rate well, IIRC. Some hiccups with the service and staff, maybe it's been fixed by now...

Not really, "booze" usually refers to liquor, doesn't it? The "r" key is right above the "f", maybe the OP slipped while typing

"Beef, Booze and Broads." (Although, I just noticed AOldfield pointed that out already.)

I haven't been there. I would have to hear amazing reviews from my cook friends before I'd even bother. In a town with steakhouses like Carnevino, Craftsteak and Stripsteak, why go anywhere else?

For your sake, I hope that the populace of the town which will be the home of your new restaurant does not have that attitude.

Well I certainly hope they do. Like Oscar Wilde, I have simple tastes. I am always satisfied with the best. If I could find a town 100% populated with people who insist on the best, then I'll have no worries. It's when people insist on "cheap" that things slide in the restaurant world.

With access to truly world-class steakhouses, why would anyone opt for anything but the best? (Short of inability to pay.) For instance, I totally understand this statement, "We can't afford a meal at Carnevino. So lets grab some Bahn-Mi and a bottle of wine instead." This fictional diner is substituting an inexpensive "best" for an expensive one.

What I cannot understand for the life of me is a statement such as, "I don't feel like paying for a good meal at Carnevino. Let's go to Outback instead." Someone has the means and the opportunity to eat well and instead chooses mediocre? I just can't wrap my head around that.

I would agree that Outback is just okay, but sometimes I don't feel like cooking and it's up the street from the house. I much prefer Austins at the Texas Station, but it's further to drive and requires getting dressed up fairly respectably. Outback isn't dining, it's just eating, and serves it's purpose.

I would never spend money at Oscar's place. The name is offensive and that "gentleman" earned his money in some very questionable ways. I admire him in some ways, but I'm not interested in giving him my money. I'd rather spend it at Collichio's place (Craft Steak) or Bouchon.
