P.S. I always viewed Marathon Key as much nicer than Key West, K.W. being the "tourist trap" that it is...

You know one person who lives in Key West. I'll bet she doesn't live there full-time, either. Most of the yachties leave during the summer.

Yes, Key West has lots and lots of people who can their food. It also has lots of people who live off the grid. And the general vibe of Cold Creek is similar to that of Key West.

Yeah, I would think the flies would be an issue. But no worse than the mosquitoes back home.

As for Marathon, for a tourists just looking for sun and sand, sure, it's fine. But to LIVE THERE? No thanks. Key West has so much more to do -- like the symphony and the playhouses. I wouldn't even live as far north as Summerland. Hell, some years I never even crossed the Cow Key bridge.

If you look at Cold Creek, remember that they're off the power grid, and the power system attached to your home is a big deal. When I worked at Indian Springs, one of my coworkers rented a house there. In the winter, every evening after she got home she had about three hours worth of power, because the storage system wasn't up to snuff. If you have to replace or repair whatever system is in place to generate electricity, you will get into major money quickly.

And, I couldn't think of a better place to be if there's a zombie apocalypse. You could see the zombies coming for miles. And all your neighbors are armed to the teeth. (In a friendly, libertarian way. Seeing as there's no police except prison guards for miles in any direction.)

I think the best way to describe Cold Creek is "Martha Stewart marries Mad Max and they build a home together in the shadow of the Spring Mountains." It's a neighborhood of tastefully designed and built houses, well appointed, with a larder of venison jerky and pickled vegetables stored in mason jars. Everyone makes their own power. There are a lot of musicians. It's my kind of place. Think Key West without the ocean.

I am going to Indian Springs Nv. I know nothing about the place except I will have a mobile home in Patriot mobile home park. Any one know anything about this park, good or bad? the area? stores?
Any information will help me decide.

If I absolutely had to work at Indian Springs, and was looking for a place to live, I'd find a nice place near the furthest northern edge of Las Vegas and commute. It ain't that far. But I wouldn't live at Indian Springs if they held a gun to my head ...well, maybe if it was a big gun.
