Can't ban panhandling and escort flyer distribution. That would violate the 1st amendment. This has been tried and failed before.

From the article...seems they are concentrating that effort on the bridges....

They also want the county to limit some First Amendment activities on the pedestrian bridges connecting various casinos.

I gotta say that I hope this pans out. I was there this weekend and the area from Bills down to Venetian is just a mess....too many pedestrians, too many panhandlers, beggars, con men and so forth jamming up traffic and causing problems. At least Saturday night there was a TON of LV Metro out along with casino security. But theres a serious danger issue.

I've always felt that young women should avoid the area. Considering the number of pimps that were out Saturday night, nothing has changed my opinion.

Just curious, what do the pimps look like? Are you serious? Surely not you're stereotypical pink suit, cane, pinky ring, and flamboyant hat.

It would be nice but I agree. The First Ammendment will come out on top.

Black dudes with tats and too much jewelry(usually a thick gold necklace) out there walking by themselves constantly looking all around. No they don't wear the hollywood stereotypical gear, but nor do they look like someone out for tourism or gambling(though sometimes they hit the craps tables at Casino Royale).

Back on subject every city has this problem. They just do not have 39 million people seeing it. In many cities these sections exist but not where the tourist hang out. If you go to Atlantic City they tell you not to go 2 blocks off the boardwalk you are in the not nice part of town. How to change it in LV Benchmark how the other cities did it. Apply what will work and most of all have strong political leaders who support it. Don't dump it on the casinos they are tax payers also.

The panhandlers aren't hurting anyone and are not even the slightest bit aggressive from what I've ever seen. Mental illness and addictions play a major role and more programs (and dollars) to help these homeless people may improve the situation. As far as the escort ad "slappers" it isn't them throwing the paper cards all over the streets, it's the tourists. Maybe the visitors should be educated to NOT take them and throw them on the ground and/or wait to toss them into a garbage can if they must take them. I was told that these people are not paid by the number of cards handed out, they make their measly commission from codes on the card. When an escort is called and the code on the card is indicated by the caller it goes to the worker; so it is not in their interest to have visitors take cards and toss them onto the sidewalks and streets.

They can ban those activities, very simple. But a lot of whiny liberals here would have a heart attack over the only workable solution -- privatize the roads and sidewalks on the strip. All the county has to do is help the casinos form a consortium then transfer ownership of the roads/sidewalks to the new private company. Boom problem solved. Now it becomes a trespassing issue. They wouldn't be arrested for panhandling or soliciting, but simply for trespassing on private property.

And after its a trespassing issue, I would prefer if the panhandlers were shot if they return after being told to leave. They're disgusting.
