That does not make me a resident, and certainly not an expert on Las Vegas...but I do see a different LV as I don't always visit just for casinos. I travel there approximately twice a year.

I simply asked the OP what his or her frame of mind was when they moved there, so as to allow others that may share that same frame of mind to have a reference. My brother has lived there for almost 10 years now...and has found LV not to be the utopia he expected. He has opened my eyes to some problems that would be virtually unknown to the tourist who may never rent a car or travel off the strip.

Besides, where in the rules does it say that one can only post in threads where they reside?
My brother worked for the Clark County government at one time. He got an inside look at how things work there...and came away disgusted. Thank God, I didn't move out there with my family to join him. Unfortunately for him, he's still stuck there.

It's kind of odd...the one's that go out there all bright-eyed and hopeful...never come back to post their after experiences, so as to prevent others from making the same mistake. I haven't heard for Golfinnova or BillieTheKid in awhile.

Some people, myself included, are like rbellious teenagers and will only learn from their own experiences. No amount of warning will sway their decisions. I will let you know how my move goes. Good and bad. While I am not naive enough to think Las Vegas will be my paradise, I do feel that I have done my homwork tto the point that I know we are making the right move. I do have experience in some of the worst parts of this country and made the best of them. I just cannot fathom LV being worse than the cesspools I have been in. I see it being a good move. We are making this move to better ourselves and to finish our educations, not to find a place to retire. If that happens, so be it. UNLV saw it fit to pay for my fiance's education and we would be dumb to turn a full ride like that. I will keep all interested informed on how it goes though.

Hey jfkIII,

I started work yesterday, and I've been working from 7-6 which is why I haven't posted in a while. Things are going good, my house is coming along splendidly. I move into our temporary condo at Painted Desert tomorrow until the house is ready. I have the next 2 days off so I'll be playing a lot of golf at Silverstone

Being in town a couple of weeks has shown that people do come here and lose control (in terms of not sticking to a gambling budget). However, this is no different than A/C as the effects are present off the boardwalk. People have been great to me which is a welcome change from DC.

cj...I wish you and your fiance good luck and good fortune out there...please keep posting...I wouldn't mind someone new to the area proving me wrong on this.

Golf...tough to get back into work, I bet, after being off for a bit...but work is a double-edged sword...it takes time away form the golf game...but you need it to pay the golf fees, right? Glad to hear that all is going well for you. When is the permanent house gonna be done again? Are the kids in school yet, or are they too young...I forget. Good luck and please keep posting. I'll make a deal with you and cj...you keep posting, and I'll keep routing for you two, k?

PT...sorry...at the request of my brother, he has asked that I tell no stories, as he fears his identity could be compromised (he's kind of a paranoid fellow with that kind of stuff and his privacy.) Let's just suffice it to say that there's lots of backdoor politics and underhanded deals going on there. Then again, one can say that about many other places, too.

I've been here since June, and we love it. We spend lots of time at the parks, Red Rock, 4-wheeling, etc. We take walks most evenings...I love that the humidity is so low that even high temps feel comfortable. We took the kids to see Blue Man Group, and they thought it was the greatest thing on earth. My husband's been exploring the different archery ranges, he says the Las Vegas Archery Club is just gorgeous. We've barely scratched the surface of the things to do here.

We're originally from the Detroit area (ugh), and recently lived in Omaha for a year (easily the most boring city in the country). We were looking for an urban environment where there was also lots of outdoor activities. We've been very pleased with Vegas. It's certainly a huge step up from Detroit! I've found the people to be very friendly (much more so than Detroit).

We haven't experienced any negatives so far, and the ones that I hear people complain about are very much in keeping with other large metro areas.

Default Don'tcha love it...

Old JFK just gonna run right along slinging mud at various things in Las Vegas and, when pressed, cites the paranoid brother as the inside source.

Transparent..

My unimpeachable source says he cleaned bathrooms in the Clark County Center with JFKs brother and says he is a lying snake...

Maybe it is in the genetics.

Lola...as olecapt has said many times...it's better than some areas, worse than others. Coming from Detroit, I can see your point. I can imagine the humidity over by the Great Lakes...90 degrees and high humidty is much more uncomfortable than 110 with low humidity (I was out in LV one summer when it was 115...it was hot, but not the wet blanket feeling. Quite a wind storm at that time...which was painful!) Saw BMG at Luxor a few years back...fantastic! Good luck out there (and please keep posting).

Not just the humidity, but the MISQUITOS!!! You walk outside in MI, swat your arm, and if you don't kill 20 right then you know it's been a dry year!

I must say, 110 and above is HOT, but I find 105 here to be comfortable... hot, but fine to be out in. In MI, mid-80s was where it started to get uncomfortable, because that was always accompanied by high humidity.
