To answer questions.
--About whether we had jobs lined up. I did, wife did not. My jobsite in California closed, but they did offer a transfer to the Las Vegas site. Kept my seniority and benefits, which are nice. On top of it, I got an instant $25 on my first weekly check because of no state income tax. My wife did qualify for unemployment because of the hardship caused by the transfer or whatever it was that fell under.
--Where in Henderson we live. We live off of Green Valley Pkwy between Wigwam and Windmill in an apartment.

--All the different outdoor things you can do if you choose to do it.
--Mt Charleston.
--The fact that you drive down the strip whenever you are feeling crazy to do it.
--The weather(No fog and blue skys). Plus when its hot you have AC in 99.9 of every building you go in, including your place of residence. I have yet to find a place that DOES NOT HAVE AC.

Things we dont like.
--The boring weather reports. Not the weather itself, but how almost every weather forecast is the same.
--The inconsistency in people driving. We both come from California, so we are used to crazy driving, but I do not understand people going 10 miles under the speed limit on the freeway going more then 3 exits in a car in a newer car and is not an old person or on the phone.

My word of advice for anyone thinking about moving here is: Think about where you are coming from. Vegas is a totally different beast. Also think why are you wanting to come out here. Know what you are getting into. If you go with that, then you will not be surprised in August when it hits 110. I really think we should create a thread for people wanting to come out and live here. Then put it as a sticky. It should have all the good and bad, plus any questions anyone may have.
me, my husband, & 2 kids are planning on moving down in june/july. We've lived in Mesa,AZ so we know the weather its everything else we are taking a gamble on. We want to start our own business & was told this is the state for that. The things I'm concerned with is picking right area for my kids, & a business. We are also wondering about the housing market. We have flipped in Omaha where were from so we know we can start in a fixer. realistic can we

Hello everyone, I am in Las vegas house hunting got here last sunday. First time driver in the area so I did notice the lights did take a longer than usual time to change. I am sure it must have some reason to it such as traffic flow control and pedestrian crossing. As far as driving YES! the GPS tells us where and what to do so I am one of those folks driving and trying to get into the correct lane. I did notice many folks do not use their turn signals. I have driven on 215 during the 5:00 PM rush hour it is busy but nothing compared to Boston or Montreal. Went down the strip Wed night about 9:00 PM from the Stratosphere to getting back on 215. I am staying in Henderson so I have not learned the short cut streets. Have viewed some great areas and some not so nice I see a vast difference the closer to the strip you get but outside of that it is very clean and sharp looking. Might make an offer on a place today and test the waters. Anyone got an opion on the 89121 Paradise ares especially Sun Rise Villas???? Will be out here until Sunday.

Sunrise Villas 7? Eastern and Viking? That's the only one that I have first hand knowledge about.

PLEASE be careful about purchasing in there. I have two friends who live there. The Villa's have been hit recently with a string of robberies/burglaries and there are a lot of foreclosures in there even though it is age restricted.

One of my dear friends is strategically foreclosing on her home in there because she is afraid of her safety and has already left and the other friend is selling outright just to get out. Used to be so safe in that community years and years ago!

Maybe the other Sunrise Villa divisions are safer and have less incidences of crime. Best thing to do is get in the development for a visit and ask some of the residents about how they feel about their particular development.
