I decided that I want to drive to vegas next week and stay 3 months. My plan will be to stay in a motel until I find a cheaper long term sublet. I will be driving from NYC.

Currently I am unemployed and I am not looking for work. I just want to get away from NYC for a while. I am in my early 30's and have enough money saved where money should not be a problem.

I've traveled to Europe like this in the past so traveling is not new.

My concerns are will I be able to pre-occupy myself for 3 months in Vegas? How quickly will I get bored? Is making friends a possibility in Las Vegas?

I decided that I will not bring my gaming computer and just a laptop, so this will force me to stop playing video games all day and be more social.

I developed recently a bit of a social anxiety disorder that I need to work on, so I think vegas will be a good and easy way to force me in contact with people. I think playing poker is a great way to get exposure with speaking and sitting with strangers. What do you think? Is there other ways to easily meet and talk with people in vegas?

Is meeting girls hard or easy in vegas, I am not talking about prostitutes, tourist girls are OK. I've heard both that vegas is hard and easy to meet girls. I also heard its mostly males in vegas. Could someone fill me in on the real deal?

Do you think finding a sublet for 2-3 months will be easy or hard in vegas? I would need something furnished. Do any of you have tips on finding a furnished place to live short term?

So am I crazy for driving out to vegas with no place to live and not knowing anybody for 3 months?

Edit: Do Las Vegas people have any prejudices or dislike NYC people, I have a strong NYC accent and it seems many places around the country don't like NYC people. Even as far as Arizona.

Since you say you have the money, then I guess it's not really THAT crazy. I'm not from Vegas, my family is though, and I'll be moving there by next summer with my kids. That being said...yes there is a lot to do in Vegas, but all that hard earned money you have saved up you might blow away on a poker table in one night lol. I would go to the $1 black jacks and others that I saw advertised while I was there last Nov just for fun maybe. I saw plenty of females running all over the strip freezing their butts off as well. I wouldn't say it's difficult to meet females, but it also depends on what type of quality in a person are you looking for? Personally the strip doesn't look like a place to go meet someone from out of town that wants to be your new bestie IMHO. Maybe get trashed and hook up with so you're not actually paying for a prostitute, sure thing, but someone who gives a crap about you...not so much.

Have you been to Vegas before? It's completely different once you get off strip and off freemont.

Hell, my Uncle works at Eastside Cannery (off strip) and while on strip my tiny tank top little skirt, and black boots were A-OK, but when I went and visited my Uncle, some older gentleman thought I was a prostitute and that my Uncle was my pimp. Then he thought we were lying to him that I wasn't *ahem* for sale LOL!

There are strong NY accents all over Las Vegas. Along with strong southern accents, Spanish accents, Canadian, Boston, Asian, ...etc.

You get the picture.

And as far as

People do this all the time on a daily basis.

If you partake in B very much, there is a high likelihood that A will not be true for long.

That said, it can be a good way to get used to dealing with people, but not necessarily. People have wide emotional swings at poker tables, and some of them are just there to play and don't want to chat.

Most of the people who live in LV are not natives. Don't worry about your accent.

You will have a better chance on meeting locals by visiting one of the Station Casinos, located off the Vegas strip.

I thought you can really stretch your money playing poker if you do it smart? I mean I won't be playing $2000 dollar poker hands.
