in the days of nonchange persons you dont need to tip for a normal payout.....HOWEVER if its a biggun....it certainly might speed up the completition of your business....but ONLY if you are receiving exceptional customer service......

According to the Infernal Revenue Service you owe taxes on your winnings that EXCEED your losses....

If you 'conveniently" leave your SS# at home, they will accomodate you by paying you your jackpot minus the taxes...probably at something like 30%....if its a machine pay...let your conscience be your guide [or lack of thereof.]

According to the website lasvegas4newbies they state: "Casinos report gambling winnings for these games to the IRS when a player wins $1,200 or more from a bingo game or slot machine or if the proceeds are $1,500 or more from a keno game. When you exceed these amounts, the casino may withhold taxes and will provide you with IRS Form W-2G. They keep the original and give you two copies of the form. (If state income tax withholding is required on gambling winnings in your state, additional taxes may be withheld.)

The rules are different for table games (such as blackjack, baccarat, craps, roulette or other spinning wheel games.) Since Nevada casinos do not know the amount you started with, they are not able to determine how much you won (...your taxable gain.) As a result, federal law provides that there is no withholding or even reporting of table game wins to the IRS."

if someone "serves" you (assuming its decent service) they deserve to be tipped at least on the value of the comped drinks/food. as far as tipping a share of your winnings, most do expect a tip but whether or not they deserve more than said value of free services is up for debate. they dont cover a portion of your losses. That being said, if its a local bar that you regularly go to and they know you as a regular, then most do tip more when winning , especially after hitting a decent jackpot.

Isn't everything tickets now? I you hit a big slot win, it prints a ticket, and you go to the cashier to get paid. This is a superior method because you then don't have the slot attendents with their hand out for a tip.

I just hate how when it's $1,200 or over you wait and wait for hand-pay, provide them with all your i.d. and players card, they walk away, wait and wait, they come back and give you 70% of what you won and the other 30% just disappears...because your Canadian and a foreigner. I hit a $12,000 r/w/b 7's progressive at Slots-Of-Fun and $1,400 on community fish game at Venetian where eventually you can recover some of it though a refund service (who also take a % of your balance).

I agree with my Canadian friend. I know Nevada has no lottery but I live in NYS and if you win $600.00 or more you pay state tax they take 25%. In Canada no tax on their lottery. Same holds true at our Indian casinos if you win over $1200 State and Fed tax is taken. What a rip off I invest the money time and risk and they take money for not doing a thing. So if you hit a big lottery lets say $100 million you will loose about 48% in taxes. That is hy the Lottery is called a poor mans tax!!!!

The 30% disappears because you don't provide them with a US Social Security #. Taxes must be paid and if they can logically assume that you aren't going to file in the USA then they collect it to save you the trouble.

Yes, that is why the refund management company actually files a US income tax for you to get it back...and that's when they take their % cut off for doing that. I hear it is quite complicated for foreigners to do the income tax forms...I did get a US Treasury number though via a letter sent to me months after doing that though.
