We also did the zoo, balboa, midway, seaside village, coronada, the gaslamp district, la jolla, dana point (whale watching), and anaheim.

My favorite part of San Diego itself was the uss midway.. very informative.. i also enjoyed the zoo.. except for the train driver.. she insisted on stopping at PLANTS and passed right by the animals.. we ended up walking the zoo..

Little Italy in San Diego WAS AWESOME. Had dinner at Bon Appetite.. affordable and excellent.
The only disappointment of San Diego to me was our hotel.. Even though I pricelined in and saved 75%.. i could not believe how expensive it was... Stayed at the Omni $120 per night + 35. per night to park.. Location was good (by the Gaslamp). Granted, all the hotels around were extremely expensive but this seemed overpriced even at 120.

We then stayed in La Jolla.. very nice.. had another good restaurant dinner...stayed at Marriot $59 due to Employee discount... walkin rate was $189.

Next day to Dana Point - whale watching.... When we bought our tickets, they told us that we would most likely see dolphins and maybe a whale because it was out of migrating season... We saw 20+ whales.. they announced that it was very unusual... Had the time of my life.. can't wait to do this again... the pictures i have i will cherish.

Then to Anaheim (not disneyland - too old for that) Awesome hotel both nights.. a Marriot $55 and a Residence Inn $40 at the gate of disneyland (again employee discount)....Drove to Long Beach... whalewatching again.. this time only 2 whales and a couple dolphins... saw the Queen Mary 2.. disappointed... it seems that there is no upkeep on the ship.. didn't like Longbeach..... Also went to Bearded Papa to get creme puffs.. was recommended by our vet and we surprised them with a dozen when we got back... Also went to Bubba Gumps (loved it)...
Time from Aliante to San Diego 5hrs 2 minutes (included 1 mess on the 15 for an accident)... Time from Anaheim to Aliante 3hrs 45 minutes

I've got to give reps to everyone as well. We had a blast this past weekend.

Stayed at Barona Resort, they have a casino the size of a Stations property yet they are packed EVERY night. You have to wait in line practically for a spot at any table or slot machine but their customer service is bar none the best I have ever seen, the folks from the major chains including Stations should see how a casino is run and learn from these guys. Best part is that we got both our rooms comped so our out of pocket was only $150 for 4 days/3 nights.

Played golf Friday and Sunday at Barona Creek right next to the resort, very fast greens. Went to Padres-Marlins on Friday night and had a blast with their fireworks show after the game. Saturday was all day at Sea World which is great but could use more rides, glad we still went as I've never been.

Drive was pretty easy only backup was at 91 going to the beaches. Now if only we could capture some of that 76 degree weather and keep it here during the summer.

Glad you had a good trip and thanks for getting back to us with the report. So many people ask for advice but you never know if they took any of it. My wife and I were talking about SD yesterday, and how we want to go more often. We have only gone there on our own one time, and that was about a month ago. Before that we only went to visit friends. They showed us a lot of things, but we enjoy exploring on our own too.

Thanks to you too for reporting back. I'd love to go to a pro baseball or football game. Unfortunately my wife couldn't care less about sports and I couldn't just go without her.

Not unless you hire a food taster

One thing that is necessary in any San diego trip is dinner in old town.....patio dinning and phantastic Mexican food.

Yes, San Diego is my kind of place. I want to retire there, what a dream. I know of no one that's not enjoyed beautiful San Diego. Year 'round gorgeous weather. Totally agree with Golfinnova's opinion of Barona. Their buffet was first class also.
