Ok, i know this isn't the lowest bill but I just figured out the cost vs the cost last year...

My bill for July last year was 496.00 Kept the AC at 80. 2500sf 3floor home with pool 2hp pump with solar screens. Worked grave, wife working morning... lights on for a fair amount of the day.

This year for July, we came in at $293. but some very big differences.... Kept AC at 75 both units on. Changed pool pump to intelliflo, tinted windows (kept solar screens also), insulated attic area, changed to wifi thermostats, changed ALL lightbulbs to cfl's including outdoor porchlights... Added 10 more landscape lights (not cfls, they are halogen). Working odd hours, wife swing ... lights almost always on..

$200 savings for the month.. not bad.... Last month $120 difference.... its paying off

Congratulations on the savings, but I believe the cooler weather this summer compared to the same time period last year had more to do with the lower bill than any changes you made.

Case in point: We also live in a 2500sq ft house with a pool and exterior landscape lighting. Our July 2010 bill was $335 for 2626kwh. Our July 2011 bill came in at only $137 because we only used 1039kwh for the same period. Keep in mind that neither of us work so that when we're not out at the casinos, movies, etc., we're here. Moreover, we have three 20-year-old HVAC units cooling our house.

So, we too saw a $200 reduction in our NVE bill. And that $200 represents a 2/3 reduction from last summer. As far as I can tell, we haven't done anything different from last year, so the much lower bill has to be attributable to the a/c not kicking on as often due to lower temps during the day.

Yes, I understand. And if it weren't for that, your bill would be even lower than what it was. But again, I believe that the reason that your bill was so much lower than last year even with the above differences has more to do with the lower temps this summer compared to last than because you changed your pool pump, lightbulbs and thermostat and added window tinting and attic insulation (although I'm sure that those changes contributed somewhat to the energy efficiency you experienced). I think you need a few more months of comparison data before you'll be able to get a handle on just how much energy savings you will experience because of the changes you made.

There's something obviously wrong with your numbers, but I'm not really interested in researching the correct figure. Your figures look closer to average temp not average high, which would be about 10 degrees higher. In any case, I do know that last July was the hottest ever recorded in Las Vegas, and that June was hotter than this June as well. And after all, the bills that we've recently received encompass parts of both months.

If you want to believe that your lower bill is due solely or even mostly due to the changes you made, that's fine. I was merely pointing out that my bill went down over 60% (compared to your 40% reduction) from last year and I made no changes whatsoever. If the cooler weather this year wasn't responsible for that, I don't know what was.

My bills are also cheaper this summer than last year, so far. But I also agree that this summer has been Much milder than last year. Has Vegas even hit the 110s yet? Last year was brutal hot

I'm sure that the next NVenergy rate hike proposal will argue that cool weather is hurting their investors profits
