I've always looked at city-data.com and the forums when deciding to move and always appreciate the insight offered. This is my first time posting in the forums.

I'm exploring an opportunity to move to Las Vegas to work for a solar contractor which I've already talked with, but want to get some input from local residents. I just have a few questions:

-Have you bought or do you know anyone else that has bought solar power for their home?

-Do you think electricity rates are expensive in Las Vegas? Obviously solar power has an inherent environmental effect, but it has to make financial sense too.

Any input you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

I want to put solar Panels on my house in LV, but the cost of the array is still out of my price range.
Once 500w Panels are $250 per you will see a big rise in customers

If you don't have a hookup then the return on investment is 20 years for the system. keep in mind the panels have a 25 year life span. Also the inverters are prone to failure so add that to the cost. Get the ROI down to under 10 years and I will be on board.

It will be easy to tell when Las Vegas is ready for solar.

Just wait until someone will lease you a solar system for less than your electric bills.

Simple as that.

No one does anything for "free". But if they would pay my electric bill I might rent them my roof for free.

think about the tax implications...if they provide you with free electric in return for the right to sell the power they produce on your roof to the power company...where is the taxable income? It is there...somewhere.

Some of the new home builders are adding solar to their homes, Shea homes has not only solar roof shingle panels they have solar attic fans and radiant barriers as well.

Pulte homes Villa Triest in Summerlin has been building solar homes for the last two years they have solar roofing tiles and radiant barriers as well. Some builders will offer radiant barriers for an additional cost. Electricity is high in and around Las Vegas.
