Just put the phone or tablet in recovery mode and flash jailbreak over iOS. The device's data will be wiped and you will have a clean slate to do whatever you want with it.

If the phone doesn't have a pin code on it, then you don't even need to bother putting it into recovery. Just pull the sim card first, then disable the find my phone features and/or wipe the phone within iOS.

Prior to removing the sim card, the owner can make the phone a brick. It would be wiped and bricked. It would be in hard memory. This can also happen if you jailbreak it incorrectly. In other words, if my iPhone gets stolen I'll make it a brick and it will be completely useless

You sure?

According to the Apple support groups there is no way to brick an iphone remotely.

It is pretty difficult to truly, completely brick an Iphone (not recoverable). Most of the "bricks" people experienced with iOS v4.3 were due to a recovery mode loop. There is a way to fix those now too using fixrecovery.

I believe a mobileme locked device will still go into recovery mode and be able to have the OS overwritten with a jailbreak method. If anyone has access to a device they can lock down they can test this out (I don't or I would).

I had the front desk guy at a hotel ask me (because I was holding an iPad) if I could unlock an iphone he was "given" by a lady. That was pretty funny. But yeah, you can completely reset Apple products. Then again, as an owner of an Apple product, I wouldn't really ever waste my money on another one. It would have to be amazingly cheap for me to consider it. Android >>> IOS.

Don't know about that but I do know you ain't getting an iPad or Mac laptop for 50 bucks
