Aloha all:

We'll most likely be moving to the Las Vegas area due to my fiancee's job offer there.

I have a 4th grader in need of a great public school, as we will most likely not be able to afford a private one.

I've heard Green Valley, Henderson, Summerlin and Red Rock areas are good, based on statistics I've found online, but would like a local person's opinion before really considering which ones to go for.

We want to live near a lake (if possible) or at least a community pool, since we are so used to being around water.

Any suggestions out there?

Mahalo (Thanks),

A former Detroiter (GO RED WINGS!)

WE live in Henderson in an area called Anthem. The grade school is frank Lamping and it just topped the list in all of Nevada. over 80th% in all subjects. Great school spirit and parent involvement. We are only about 20 minutes to lake mead. Hope this helps. This is area 89052.

Pretty much all houses in Vegas either have pools or at least community pools.

That said, try Desert Shores. It's reasonably priced housing with community lakes inside.

I"m a former Detroiter myself and second your Go Red Wings!

In my opinion the best schools are found in the Green Valley area of Henderson. Green Valley is also very nice. If it were me I'd be buying a home in Green Valley and sending my kids to the schools right there.

Some of the best ranked high schools in the valley would include Coronado HS, Green Valley HS, Centennial HS, Palo Verde HS, Sierra Vista HS, an d Silverado HS.

Most of those (actually, I believe all of them) are either in Henderson or Summerlin.

Best of luck.

Also, this sort of refers back more to the original question, but in case you're interested, there are a few community pools in Henderson. Here's a list:
