I'm starting a new job soon in Las Vegas and I was just concerned if the salary I will be receiving is enough to pay my bills for the month. I know the rent I will be paying is $1400 a month but I'm not sure how much the cost for utilities, home/car insurance, groceries etc.. I've also heard that the school system is not the best. Some input on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You might be starving the last three days of the month

I live quite easily on 1/3 of that and have no problems with crime or anything else.

There are a lot of people living on a lot less than $40,000 a year, even in Los Angeles. You won't be rich, but you'll survive.

$1400 a month in rent? $900 will get you a great apartment in summerlin. $3400 is plenty to live on in Vegas, as long as you're not blowing money on $700 bottles of Skyy vodka in the clubs.

All else considered, it also depends on how much your health insurance costs.

You can probably do it if you're frugal, but the fact that you're paying $1400/mo in rent suggests that you're not frugal.

Edit: Is the $3300/mo pre-tax or post?

It’s an impossible question. Too may variables like size of family to support? Health insurance costs. Drugs, drinking, gambling issues. Your partner’s entitlement spending habits.

I have a family of 4. There are no drugs, drinking or gambling issues in my family and I'm very frugal with my money. I'm pretty sure that my family insurance there will be between 350-500 a month.
