We are looking to relocate to the southwest (have been researching Austin, TX also), due to my husband's back pain issues which become unbearable in the cool/cold, damp weather typical of Kentucky. My folks live in Vegas and love it (gambling and weather); my sister and her family live there also and hate it (weather, schools and jobs). We have an 8 year old and need to find a good public school system - he is an above average student so don't want him to get lost in the shuffle. I am in the fitness industry; my husband is currently unemployed but would be looking toward the automotive industry. Advice please! I am not very happy about moving from my beautiful little 10 acre slice of heaven, but I'm trying to be a good wife! (Growl...)

Positives:
Great weather 10 of 12 months.
Close enough to go boating (Lake Mead) or snow skiing (Mt. Charleston).
Great restaurants, parks, libraries, shopping.
TONS of fitness centers.

Negatives:
The 2 months are REALLY hot. 110 degrees, still much better than high humidity areas but still dern hot.
Schools are not as good as other areas; however, as a parent of 7-year old twins in CCSD, it depends on the school and the success of the student relies highly on parent involvement. My kids are thriving right now because their school is top notch.
Jobs-They are out there but highly competitive.

Still no regrets moving from DC nearly 4 years ago.

You say the school your children go to is top notch. Which school would that be?
