Hello, everyone. This is my first post, but I've lurked this forum for a while and have learned a bit about the city from you guys.

My dad got a job in Henderson last year. He's been living out of a motel room while he searches for a house so the rest of the family can join him (we're in southern California). He thinks he's found a great deal in Anthem. The house itself looks beautiful and the price seems very appealing, but I'm not sold on the area. It's southern Anthem; judging by the maps I'm studying, it's only about a dozen houses away from the emptiness of the desert. It also looks devoid of all greenery.

How do you guys feel about this area? Are there any shopping centers or points of interest near by? Is it safe (I've heard anything south of St. Rose parkway is pretty safe, but this is several miles below that). Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

You will have to get use to not having allot of greenery this is the desert and most of Vegas and the surrounding area's have desert landscaping. That's to save on water after all we are a desert. There is some really nice green area's here and there is some in Henderson in fact Henderson has more green than other places around the valley. Your father has picked a nice area for you all to live in. Good Luck

If your talking about Anthem Highlands area then its really a nice area. It is isolated, but there is a shopping center near by where you have an Albertsons and a few banks. You will have to drive to Eastern to get to most of the big box stores but its about a 10-15 drive. That area is very nice and clean. Closest local casino is probably the M Resort, and the 15 Freeway is close.

I personally would love it--it would save me 20 miles in gas every time I go out there to hike in that "emptiness of the desert", which is really quite beautiful if you ever happen to venture out that way (which I would recommend).

Shopping and whatnot is just as the others have said--there's a center I believe it's near the middle (or perhaps more toward the back) of the anthem community, but to get more variety you would have to travel along eastern avenue and that area, which, as the other poster stated, is a 10 to 15 min drive.

I've never done it yet, but I wouldn't think I would be frightened if I were walking around anthem at 2 in the morning. My impression is that it--and most of Henderson--is quite safe. You can never keep away all the criminals all the time no matter where you live, but your chances of running into them in anthem is not very high.

Being from SoCal you should appreciate an area "devoid of greenery."

Just think if it this way, it CAN'T BURN!!!

Wow, let me know which houses are for sale in that region! I would take that location over the Vegas neighborhoods anyday. I will agree with Basil on the latter paragraphs, and would very much enjoy hiking in that region.

My husband and I moved to the Anthem Highlands area this past summer and we absolutely love it! There is an Albertersons right down the hill from my house as well as a CVS, a few small places to eat and a Starbucks. We were a little gun shy about buying our house because on the map we were practically in the desert but are so glad we bought this house. I-15 isn't far from our house(about 12 minutes or so) and the M casino is about 10 minutes or so away.

Can someone give me the cross streets for the Albertsons and CVS near Anthem Highlands?

Then again, given the financial mess of that state, one could argue that CA has been "devoid of greenery" for quite some time now.
