I have heard they are more for families not singles?

MMMM. I'll even bump that up to 90. My blood is thinner these days.

Summerlin is a gorgeous place to live. Easily my favorite area. I think there's a good mix of family vs. singles. However...if you are commuting to UNLV you might want to live a little closer...maybe Henderson area? I'm not familiar down south.

Is South Summerlin the same as Summerlin?

Speak for yourself because that is flat out crazy. 105 with 3% humidity is still hot, 75 with high humidity is warm but not hot. High 80s and high humidity and you start getting into comparables with 100+ and low humidity. I went to Philly from Vegas in July a few years ago and it was 82 with humidity in the 50s and it felt like a huge relief from the endless 107+ days.

Not sure if you had an answer to the second and third questions: Are there good neighborhoods for an educated single person to live? I have heard crime is also an issue, especially property thefts. Do the upscale areas tend to not see this as much?
Crime is everywhere as it is in all metropolitan areas. The city itself is very diverse and Las Vegas is one of the few places I've ever lived where a person's income has little to nothing to do with their level of education or intelligence. So it's one big mish mosh. Live in any area at all. The first PhD you meet here may well be your cab driver.

Well....the underlying point is valid, but "little to nothing to do with" is a bit of an exaggeration.

Don't forget this is a blue collar town. We used to have a high end car wash on Maryland Parkway where several of the guys wiping down cars had doctorates. They made more money in the car wash business. My buddy is one of the most intelligent guys I know. He worked as a student with Van Allen at U of Iowa. He retired after 40 years as a crap dealer at Caesars Palace. Ballet parking attendants are some of the highest paid people in town. Room Captains used to make $150,000 a year seating people at shows back in the 60's and 70's. It's the nature of our city. Nothing wrong with an education, but not everyone has to go to college to do well.
