Here I was thinking a new casino opening was a good sign for LV. According to Fox5, they are calling it "the end of the boom era"...

There has been much talk that Wednesday’s grand opening signals the end of the Strip’s boom era, a two-decade stretch that began with the opening of the Mirage. At the time, that property’s $630 million construction cost was the most ever.

I think they just mean that this is probably the last big resort that's going to open until the economy gets better.

Makes sense. Developers, for the most part, don't have the cash to build multi-billion dollar properties right now.

Agreed...but people want to hear of economic re-birth...not death...at this point, no?

PS...love The Cosmopolitan's advertsing campaign...have you seen the print ad of the naked bell hop delivering bags to the room, with just his shirt hanging down and hint of a$$ cheeks showing?

Gee, thanks for posting a link to a local TV segment that aired five days ago.

Your Internet connection must be really, really slow if you just now got wind of the story that the Cosmo opened last Wednesday and will most likely be the last mega resort to open on the Strip for quite some time.

But thanks for the bulletin.

Odd how a LV local station would choose to portray it in such negative terms. That's all. You'd think they'd put a more positive spin on the event.

Why the hostility?

JFK just trying to be informative. I am away back in T.O for holidays and did not catch the "local" news so I appreciate his postings. Plus, everyone knows Cosmo opened last wednesday, but nice to read / hear about press regardless of positive or negative connotations.

Here's another for you...a little dated (a week ago!)...and not local reporting...but filled with some interesting financial facts and how some other properties are viewing their new neighbor.
