I think our stand out is the contrast of the black desert and the ocean of lights by itself.

Alternatively, it would be impossible to capture LA with any black desert areas. Vegas is a cool oasis.

It has black areas - the Pacific Ocean and the mountains (San Gabriel Mountains, Chino Hills, Santa Ana Mountains). Although, it's image includes most of the metropolitan area of Los Angeles and goes into Orange County.
