Last month I went to Vegas when my wife was there for a medical convention.
It was my first time ever in Vegas and was wondering if it's the standard treatment or what.

SPOILER ALERT = This is rather long winded.

I had a week to kill and just bumbled around walking the strip etc. I don't bet unless the odds are in my favor so I am hardly a 'high roller".

When I arrived at the hotel they upgraded me to a larger room on the top floor with a view down the strip.
(OK, so they prob. upgrade when they have spare rooms. strangely, I had considered the room but thought the cost wasn't worth it)

I go down to the Mandalay Bay House of blues and start looking for my wife. I think I find the right place and go up to the sign in. But I'm not on the list. The lady says; "Not on the list? You can go ahead anyway" So I go in get a drink at the bar and pile up a plate with food.
After a while I realize I'm in the wrong spot. So I head out and start walking into the different rooms where parties are. No one stops me and I pick up a drink and food at each place. I find my wife at the third or fourth place.

Next night I go to the LAX club. I go up to the front of the line and ask if there is a charge. In response, the guy lets me in and gives me two drink tickets and a wrist band. I meet a few people and chat. It's pretty loud, so in exploring I find a nice quiet area. I go to get the people I met and lead them into the area. As I go toward the entrance three guys in suits let me by and close behind me blocking my friends. I tap the blocking guy on the shoulder and say; "They are with me" and they let them in.

We grab a spot to sit (after making sure there is no table or bottle charge). Within a couple minutes a guy walks up and explains he is there to make sure no one bothers us. Just let him know if someone does and they will make sure it's taken care of quietly. I use my drink tickets and leave after a while.

The next day I'm walking up and down the strip. I see the guys handing out pass cards to clubs and get a few. (this must explain the free entry last night.) I run into another guy who seems to be handing out cards and ask him about it. He tells me about 'King Ink' and hands me two wrist bands.
I find out later, that includes drinks and food.
It was fun.

The next night I'm walking around with my wife and we decide to go to the top of 'The Hotel' above Mandalay Bay. We heard the view was nice at night and they had a dance floor.

We approach the elevator and there seems to be a check in desk. Some Asian gentlemen seem to be having a heated discussion at the desk.
So we head to the elevator and wave at the front desk. They smile and a guy takes us to the elevator. When we get there the place was packed.
But the view was nice. We go to the bar. Order drinks. The bar tender rings up the drinks ($10 water!?). But explains the drinks are covered. When he rings up the drinks we notice the tills are showing totals in the thousands of dollars.

We go sit by the window with a fabulous view down the strip. Throughout the night people come by with food trays and drinks. Yeah, you guessed it. It's covered.

Stuff like this continues the whole time. One time my feet get tired and I'm looking for a cold pool to soak my feet. I walk into Ceaser's but the pool is closed. So I walk into the spa and spend about 2 hours there soaking (the rooms are seperated by the sexes) and hanging out eating fruit, tea and chocolate.

The only times I ever gambled was on the casino's loyalty cards which covered losses. I was happy to be up about $100 for the week. I gambled enough to get free food during the day.

Anyway, I'm suprised you read down this far, so I will spare you the other details. I always dressed nice, but not a suit and tie. I'm no one. Not famous or even good looking. And have no idea why I was treated this way. Is this standard? Is it a way to get people in casinos to gamble. Only I don't?
It was pretty amazing for my first visit to Vegas.

(My favorite part was The Mansion behind the MGM. It was like being in Europe. If everyone in Europe was pretty and attentive.)

Glad you enjoyed your visit here!

You may not be famous, but you do come across as being very polite. In the service industry, where the employees put up with difficult jerks all day, being polite can get you excellent treatment. That could definitely be part of it.

It also sounds like you were with a convention group for part of the trip? If you're with a convention, they'll usually make sure that you're taken care of. So that could also be part of it.

Of course, some of it may have just been that you had a lucky weekend.

They say that everyone has someone else that looks just like them. You happen to be Steve Wynn's non-related (and possibly less financially well off) identical twin!

Yep. You look like "somebody" and all the people who served you are now talking about how "normal" you seem. "Not pretentious or anything."

I always have a great time in Vegas, but that's definitely not normal. The room upgrade does occasionally happen and you do get some free passes to clubs, but the majority of it isn't normal. You must look like someone famous, or someone "known" such as Wynn, Sheldon, Murren etc lol.

Yeah, Funny thing.
When I was eating at Joel Robuchon's, a table on the other side of the room kept staring at me. And talking. Pictures taken from the table of the group had me in the background.
That's when I thought I looked like someone out there. At the end of the meal they asked if they should call their limo for the ride back. I handed them one of the cards the concierge gives you at check in and it was taken care of. That's when we got a tour of 'The Mansion'. Very cool.

Now I also wore nice shoes, tailored trousers and shirts; while most others were wearing cargo shorts and t-shirts. It was 90+ degrees and I was wearing slacks and a long sleeve shirt. I'll have to find a picture of myself taken during the trip and maybe you guys can tell me who I look like in Vegas.

The freakiest part was the guy basically explaining that he was my descreet bodyguard / bouncer at LAX.
