I know that Michael's frequently has sales.

The one by my house has a couple aisles dedicated to sketch pads, art pencils, and such.

I personally feel the best art supply store is Hobby Lobby. It just went in in Henderson by the Galleria Mall. It's inconvenient for me to drive that far so I also hit Dick Blick art supplies and the Joannne super stores. I was shocked at how little Michael's had in stock. Those are basically the only ones but three of them are very good ones. I make custom party invitations so I patronize them often.

Also try Aaron Brothers. There's one at Rainbow and US 95.

Up here, and probably down there too, the Sunday paper has Michaels ads that have (I think) 40% off any one item coupon. We buy sketch pads for our daughters school there.

Michaels will have anything you need plus, if you watch the advertisements they have 40 percent/25 percent off coupons. You can also go to the store and ask if they have any ads. Sometimes they will!

It depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for professional materials because you are going to be showing your work in a gallery...ordering online would be the best. But for a basic sketch pad and art supplies, Michaels is more than adequate. I often have gone there for oil/watercolors/paint brushes/pencils/paper and such over the years.

I second Michaels. Avoid desert art supplies. The people working there were strange as hell and forced my girlfriend to leave all bags outside and followed us around the store suspiciously.
