The name of a good independent VW repair shop please? I hate to go to a dealer. Thanks.

I asked this question some time back and was recommended to a great shop. We're not supposed to name names in here, so I will tell you that one of my favorite Duran Duran songs is "Hungry like the Wolfe."

I have been told the same thing buy several people. I use to work a couple of shops down from him, he is the sure thing. German accent and everything. Sounds like the commercial.

There's a shop along Boulder Hwy that specializes in VW's. If you start from Sahara and go eastwards, you can't miss it, all the VW's around there.

Thanks. Nothing at this point. Just an older vehicle with lots of miles on it. No problems at all, just want to be prepared.

I use the wolf too. He speaks VW fluently....and German too.

I also avoid the dealerships......ever since they told me it was $500 to get a key for my car.

I got a second key for my car recently and it cost 99 cents. For $500, this guy was definitely trying to steal from you.

actually lvd, he wasn't trying to steal.. the vw key is the same concept as the mercedes key... it also has to be programmed and is like a switchblade... 500. yes way to much... most likely closer to 250.. and when you need a key on a vw you have to go to the dealer.. period..

I believe there was a class action suit that had VoA agreeing to provide programming instructions for third parties to program the keys. So now, you can buy a blank flip key from a third party vendor and take it to an independent locksmith to have it programmed. It's usually much less expensive doing it this way than to take it to a VW dealer.

You can buy a blank flip key from an internet vendor for much less than a dealer. Just for illustration purposes, here's a 2004 Passat flip key for $78.95:
