In the poker room, yes. (With rare exception - Bellagio didn't used to offer comps, now they do.) Most poker rooms will have the Bravo system, where they swipe your card (like a credit card) to keep track of your play. Comps are generally directly related to your hours played. It's possible to accumulate decent comps - I've probably got $500 remaining at Venetian, $100 at Wynn, $60ish at Orleans, $100 at MGM. You get the idea - I'm not anyone special, yet I have decent comps at those various places. You can probably do better than me, as I mostly stick to poker. Table games & slots tend to get better comps.

As for the sportsbook, I have no idea whatsoever - never occurred to me to ask for comps based on my action, even tho I'm not a big sports bettor. Comps would make sense as the house is usually making 10% juice.

Once you've accrued the comps, generally they're only good for limited areas & things. The most common is food - at the Venetian, for example, I'll use mine at Noodle Asia or Grand Lux cafe, occasionally the food court. One thing I'll try soon is using a comp for one of the massage girls at the Venetian poker tables - I wouldn't pay the $2/minute in cash, but if I have a bunch of comps to use ... besides, the girls say they get paid the same either way. At Orleans, I'll use my comps at Subway, Baskin Robbins, maybe the buffet. Some places may let you use your comps at a gift shop or even for show tickets or cash - others will know more than I will about that.

Yeah, you probably can - sorry, forgot that option as I have little reason to need a room being local. Maybe for a special occasion or to do a favor for friends/family, but I've got so much room they know they can stay with me.

True. But, if we are drinking, we are not driving, so it is nice for us to have that option! I would rather chance the bedbugs than sleep in jail or worse....

Most poker rooms yes, some ask for a card, others you have to ask them to track your play. Sports betting not really unless you are betting large amounts and give them a card. The points are pretty meager and often with the poker are sort of kept separate from your regular account and are paid out based on poker room comp rates.

You can use your player's card at Stations for Sports and Race wagers. Other race and sports books have their own, seperate from slot card or main card, tracking system. Usually $500 in sports wagers gets you a $1 in comps. In the race book usually $100 in bets get you 12 points. As you can see, in sports wagers, you won't get much unless you bet at least hundreds. The sports book, when playing straight bets, is the only outlet in a casino where the player has as much chance to win as the house. They have the edge with the vig (the 10% charge; $110 to win $100), other than that, it's 50/50.

I had an idea for a system to get comps today that I wanted to run by some more experienced folks. In Baccarat, one can bet with the player or the bank. If you want to rack up some serious comps, why not have two people play and always bet opposite each other? One with the player, one with the bank? The money will just move back and forth, but the action for both players will be rated. Every time the bank wins it will deduct 5% of the total payout, so you'll slowly lose money, but if the comps are running 10% to 40% of the total action, you'll be making it back (and then some) in comps. Or am I missing something?

Ties. Every game is set up so you can't do what you want to do without losing enough money to make the comps worthwhile. There's always an outcome that doesn't hit one of the two low odds bets. In craps it's the 12 on the come out. In roulette it's the 0/00, in Baccarat its the tie.

You are NOT the first one to think of this, and they have it priced in.

with play time... you get a "poker rate"(discount) on your room/rooms. but not a comped room, the poker room is not the same as gambling.

it usually requires about 6 hours+ play time daily.

your poker room comps WILL get you meals though... same as cash and many of the establishment restaurants.
