The tipping in Asia is just outta hand, but there's so much serious poverty here.

Isn't Vegas considered the Tip capital of the world? It would seem there has to be a slightly different rule for locals, not that anyone can really determine that.

Been 10 years, but I gave a valet $100 once ages ago to skip the 30 min. valet log jam. Never again.

What's reasonable for things like:
Beggar dude with a sign - loose change
1 hour ride limos - $10
Strip Taxi - $2
Waitresses with no service charge - 10%
Cocktail Girl - $1 every other drink
The stripper who just grinded on your genitals for 3 songs. $40? Possibly priceless?

I wanna be fair, but does that sound cheap?

Yes the cocktail girl $1 every drink. The Taxi $5 at least.

Channel 8 says

"Service, service, service. That's what makes our town what it is. So many of your fellow Las Vegans depend on tips for a good part of their income. Keep that in mind whenever you're out and about. Whether you're on the Strip or dining in a neighborhood restaurant, tipping is an integral part of our Las Vegas lifestyle. Everyone from cocktail servers, bartenders, dealers, bingo or keno runners and writers to change clerks, restaurant servers, bus boys, valet attendants, taxi or shuttle drivers, showroom servers and maids should be tipped for their service.

As a guideline: 20% is considered standard for good restaurant service. A buck per drink is average. And it's not a bad idea to tip the bingo or keno runner/writer a dollar once in a while, even if you're not winning. Also share your winnings with people like the change person or others who served you, if you get lucky."

wow, I bet change people make good tips.

I don't think there's a 'standard' for tipping. What I mean by this is, it depends on several variables. Of course, good server with a good personality will 'win' more from me than the contrary, as well as paying with a comp to paying out of pocket. As for tipping cocktail waitress, I think a buck is good when ordering water, soda, etc, but if you're drinking top shelf liquor, like Bombay gin vs the cheap stuff, or Amstel Lite beer, vs cheaper beer, than $2 and up is appropriate. I don't believe there is a 'standard'. The tip has to be earned, not expected.

I think that would depend on how hot she is. Maybe there should be a scale.
A Skank = $5
A 10 = $100

1 hour ride limos - $10 -seems a little low
Strip Taxi - $2 -fine if they do the minimum, if they take a good route or provide any useful info I'd definitely go higher
Waitresses with no service charge - 10% Higher or lower depending on level of service. I'm not tipping 10% on a $400 bottle, but I'm also not tipping $.10 on $1 drinks.
Cocktail Girl - $1 every other drink -$1 per drink is standard, more for special requests or multiple drinks at a time

I wanna be fair, but does that sound cheap?
It seems to me that most locals tip more, not less, than tourists. I think the mentality is that they should be setting a good example for tourists, that they may have a similar job and know what it's like to work for tips, and that they are more likely to run into people again.

MOST locals that have worked in the tipping industry will tip what THEY would want to be tipped. BUT, we are much more critical of poor service and adjust accordingly.

How big of a tip would you give a hooker (outside of Clark Co. of course).

Ducks and waits for a response from JFK or Dyni.

I use to tip $1 per drink at the casino's in 1990. To acomadate for inflation, its now $3 from me. Valet $10 or $20 on the weekends. Foodservers %25 to %40 depending on service and personality. Slot staff a c note for every k won. Dealers the 3/2 or 6/5 gravy and nickels every hand for gift shop dealers. Dice dealers get a cut of total action won.
