Hello, I will be moving to Las Vegas in a few weeks. My hubby accepted a job transfer in Vegas (instead of Maui - no poker rooms in Hawaii).

Anyway, we have a boxer/presa mix that looks very pitt bull-ish (especially since I opted not to have her tail docked when she was a pup as most boxers have).
I understand and respect all of the reasons and what not of places that do not allow pitt types, but am wondering if any of the Las Vegas residents on this forum have pitts or similar breeds and are in fact renting in any decent apartment complexes, or know of any rental broker/agents who can help us find a rental unit or house in which our dog will be allowed.

I really just need input from people who are actually renting from places that allow these types of breeds. Please include names of places or rental agencies you have had success with.

We are looking for rentals under $1000/ month preferably. We're also willing to do the extended stay/no lease required places if need be, but most have dog weight and breed restrictions so if anyone has stayed in anyplace like that with their pitt type, please let me know.

* On a final note... I do not need to hear from any Bully-breed naysayers, please. (Believe me, there is nothing a pitt-hater can say that I haven't already heard.) I am a responsible dog owner who takes great care to avoid putting my dog in any kind of situation she should not be in. And no - I never allow her off leash, I always clean up her messes, and I do not take her to dog parks or any other public places so if anyone feels the need to comment about dog park ettiquette, please refrain. I'm not looking to start another "breed bashing" thread - there are plenty of those already.

Helpful and relevant responses only, please!

Thanks,

~Nicole

We have never had an issue renting based on our dogs breed. The issue we run into is the size allowance, since a lot of people won't allow anything over 25 pounds.

Any reputable apartment leasing company does not base the decision on looks. Have documentation from your vet stating she is a boxer and not a pit bull and everything will be fine. The only reason they don't allow pit bulls in the first place is because their insurance forbids it. As far as the size goes, some allow only up to 25 pounds others any size but usually with more money included. In any case they will tell you once you ask.

What I was told by a rental agent here in town was to make up a "resume" for my german shepherd. Pics, shot records, vet records, a letter from the vet stating he was neutered and had a good temperament. Also, it helps if you have proof of your own rental insurance stating that your dog is covered under your policy.

When I moved to Vegas, before I bought a house, I rented an apartment with Broadstone at the Montecito location. They have a bunch of other locations around Vegas. I had no problems with my 60lb boxer dog. Here is their website.
