Your so right njd, today is my first day off in 10 days. It has been a crazy ride, but very satisfying to see the store do so well.

Ive read the comments by all since the opening, my brain has been a bit scrambled so I really didnt feel like replying.

The big question seems to be new stores. Well, at this time, the only ones that are known are Northshore, Turkey Creek and University Commons. As for the "other two" there have not been any sites announced at this time, but I too have heard of a plan for 5 new stores in Knoxville within two years. Let me just say this, I fully believe that with the early success of the Northshore store, the expansion will be far greater than 5 stores in "Knoxville". So those of you in Powell, Maryville, Lenoir City, etc, keep showing up at the new Publix and let the manager know of your desire for a store closer to your area. Your request will be heard and taken seriously.

Then there is all the extra help in the store. There was a lot of that. If you were there very early it would have seemed like overkill, but if you showed up at say lunchtime or 4pm you would have thought that we needed more help. Know that all those extra people left their homes and regular stores to help provide the superior customer service that Publix has become known for. I assure you the store associates were very grateful for the extra help.

Size of the store. I have learned that you cannot argue with perception. So I won't. At the same time you cannot argue with numbers. The average Publix is around 45k sq feet, the store at Northshore Town Center is 56k sq feet.

This journey that began for wife and I a little over a year ago has been a pretty wild and often challenging ride. We now look forward to settling into our new life here in Knoxville and getting into somewhat of a routine. That is until we get ready to open at Turkey Creek, which will be before we all know it.

Congrats on finally getting a well deserved day off. I am confident Publix will thrive here. It was so great to get a great pressed Cuban the other day!
Publix is an outstanding company. When i went to summer camp in scouts way back in the 80's, Flamming Hill in Lake Wales, our dining hall was built through donations of the Jenkins family.

I am just so excited to have Publix here!

After some checking it appears that our limited experience with Publix in Florida was with larger stores - so this store is larger then many but smaller then the stores we visited. Just an odd coincidence apparently and our sample size was obviously small but our "perception" was spot on.

Changing horses, does anybody know if they sell Boars Head pre-packaged items (like natural casing beef and/or pork-beef dogs?)

I'm pretty sure they do. They sell Boars Head everything, it seems. Kroger also sells those items, for certain. I've bought the natural casing hot dogs there.

Finally made it to Publix and oh the joy of a new store with new shopping carts! zoom zoom

The advent of Publix with their reputation for customer service has for the moment rubbed off on some of the other local stores. Last week in Kroger I was constantly offered assistance. And at Fresh Market only the always-grumpy meat department lady remained reluctant to serve customers. The others were at least trying a bit more than usual. My cynical self will see how long the good will lasts.

It's good to be back at Publix, but I have to agree with a previous poster, the store is smaller than the one I shopped at before. Yet I somehow managed to fill my basket.

I was back at Publix today and had some of their gelato. Yes, they have a new gelato stand as you enter the store, next to the bakery. Real, honest-to-goodness gelato imported from Italy. Free samples of any of the dozen flavors they had. It was fabulous and inexpensive. Another reason to love Publix!

VERY inexpensive.

God love her, the lady at Coolato Gelato comes in every morning and makes that gelato. It's great but it is very expensive. I know she doesn't have the buying power that Publix has but Publix's gelato is a fraction of the cost. And the people that man the Publix gelato stand are so welcoming and fun!

Yesterday, I drove from the Dutchtown Road area to Publix, just to get a salad. It was faster than fighting the crowds in Turkey Creek!
