Hi Folks,

I'm moving from Northern VA to Knoxville. Have already done some due diligence myself. Now I would like to hear some voices on the question I posted above.

In addition, I want to know if there is any personal property taxes to pay for owned automobiles and what the tax rate is.

If you happen to have moved from the East Coast to Knoxville area, your experiences, assessment and general opinions are in particular appreciated. But I also highly appreciate feedback and opinions from anyone with actual living experiences in the area.

Retired here from Rockville Md in 2010. No personal property taxes on cars. I can tell you the cost of living here is MUCH lower than the DC area. There are differences in municipal services depending on the area you live in. You will just have to adjust to then. I find the people here are much friendlier as a general rule than the DC area. Traffic is a breeze compared to DC metro. Use the forum search function and you will generaly find answers to any questions you have. The city data site can provide a lot of hard information on Knoxville. The Tenn and Knoxville gov't websites are also a wealth of information.

I would suggest you make a scouting trip to find the area that best suits you. I would recommend west Knox and Farragut.

Thanks Dave, for the opinion and recommendation. Indeed, my plan is to move to west Knox or Farragut because that's where great high schools are.
