I heard it is an area with some crime issues. Do you think it is safe enough to raise kids there? How about the school district there? Your suggestions are highly appreciated!

Elk Grove is pretty safe. Not a single issue since I bought a house here in 2010. No idea about schools since I don't have kids.

Depends where in Elk Grove. Most of it is pretty nice though imo. I'd stick to the west side of the 99 and south of Laguna Blvd.

Elk grove is a bit triangle. The left side touches 5 around Laguna Blvd. That's safe. The east side is east of 99 that's safe.

Now the top of the triangle touches against south sac. That's not safe. Stay away from that part and you'll be fine.

The problem with EG is that in 2008 is was a great buy. Excellent schools, new homes. In 2010 it was a good buy. Now in 2015, its still a good buy but try to see if there is not something better.

Its a great place to raise kids. But god help you if you don't have kids. Everything and I mean everything is kid focused.

I don't think any part of the city of Sacramento is directly to the west of Elk Grove. Maybe stick to El Dorado County?

sac county borders elk grove more than sacramento city. The large county waste water treatment plant and it's buffering land also seperates elk grove from sac, as well as laguna creek and it's floodplain. But yes they share a common border with sheldon for a short distance.

I find Elk Grove to be a crappy place --- too fast growth, too many people, and a bunch of ridiculous traffic red light cameras with timing guaranteed to produce revenue through thoroughly unfair methods. They've got a lot of these and really love to stick it to visitors. How about a $500 fine? Plus court costs and having to take Traffic School and possibly risking a huge rise in your insurance? Lots of traffic jams in this disgusting city.

It's a cookie-cutter town, filled with the generic big box stores from national chains--- very little personality to the city.

Move to a really cool town like Davis CA which has safe biking and lots of things to do, multiple theaters, music venues, and cultural activities due to the presence of Univ of Cal, Davis. Incredible amount of things to do for kids and families and a great school system. Near enough to Sacramento and also, although a bit of drive, to San Francisco.

Davis is a great town, but you'll pay far more for a house there.
