So, last night, around 1:30 am, both my wife and I woke up out of a dead sleep. It sounded like someone was pounding on my garage door! I jumped up and ran to my daughters room and checked on her, she was sound asleep. I checked all my doors, looked outside, nothing. I even checked the earthquake website, no activity. This morning, at least one other neighbor confirmed she heard the same thing (3 houses away). I live in Corryton, near Emory and Tazewell.

Anyone else hear anything odd? Should I cut back on my Oreo addiction before bedtime?

The nearest earthquake activity was all the way out in Oklahoma where a 4.1 occurred (pretty strong) Its unlikely that it could be felt that far away. Ironically though the time of the quake was 1:26 last night. Another possibility is a military jet breaking the sound barrier overhead. A heavy truck on Tazewell Pike??? Storms were long past by then so I think that is not a likely cause.

I looked at the radar before bed and plenty of rain/storms were still on the way, and the OP is northeast of Knoxville, sounds like thunder to me...

I'd guess thunder bounced off your neighbors' houses just right. Happens here once in a while ... although we have had small quakes give us a shake or two in the past.

There were no storms in the area at that time.. I checked radar too (trying to explain away the incident to my wife, so she would let me sleep, lol)
