Driving into Gatlinburg on the 4th of July to see fireworks.. First time visiting the area. Will have 2 kids with us, 9&6.
I know parking will be crazy so..... Where does everyone recommend parking? I figure we can come earlier in the day (around 4pm...or earlier??) and walk around or take trolley around to window shop, grab some dinner, and maybe visit a cheap attraction while waiting for fireworks that evening.. If I go with this plan, do you think we'd be able to find a parking spot around 4? Wheres a big lot within walking distance of the things we'd like to do to pass the time? Opinions on parking in the public parking lot near the aquarium? Ideas on things to do, places we wouldn't need a reservation for to eat at... like a diner or something along the lines of that? Im expecting crowds everywhere we go that day! Wheres a great spot to view the fireworks in gatlinburg? Will have kids with us, so itd be ideal if we could find a nice viewing spot near a parking garage that we could possibly sit down at, like on a lawn. I dont expect to be able to get all my "wants" but any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

Everyone parks at the aquarium - that is the only large lot I'm aware of. Price is reasonable. I am not familiar with where the fireworks are.

FWIW, when I visit Gatlinburg I usually park at Trinity Episcopal Church (donation suggested) or the nearby Church of Christ, both about 3/10 mi. from the main drag.

I don't know where they shoot the fireworks from but Gatlinburg's pretty compact, so I'd bet there are many good spots for viewing them. The Trinity Episcopal parking lot/sidewalk might be a good place to watch the show since it's on a hill, and then you can escape some of the parkway madness afterwards by taking the Baskins Creek Bypass to 321.
