I've been to Knoxville several times because I have family there and love it. My husband and I decided to sell our house and take the plunge while we are still young. I have an interview on Friday that is looking very promising. My husband and I are going to rent for the first few months to get a feel for the area.

My question is, does anyone have any advice about moving from California to Knoxville? Any mistakes that we should avoid? Moving across county is overwhelming.

Anyone in the DAR? I will need to find a new chapter, preferably with active juniors since I am under thirty.

Thanks.

I imagine you already have an idea of wages from your job search.

Yes creeksitter, I will be paid more than I'm getting paid in Cali. On top of that, I will sell my house here and be able to pay off a house there. I have no car payments either. I am a front end developer so I'm generally paid well. My husband is an aerospace engineer, but he also has a degree in mechanical.

What I am more interested in is moving advice, people who have moved already from ca to tn and advice about DAR.

We moved from Long Beach in 94. The best advice I have for you is to not start a sentence with: "In California, we.........". or "That's not the way we do/did,have etc in California.....".

Re DAR. My Mother was a member of DAR (from Palm Springs area), but I'm not sure she found a Chapter (or looked for one) when she moved here. She passed away several years ago so I can't ask her. I'm sure DAR National would have a list of Chapters in this area.

Good luck with your move.

By the way, there is nothing close to El Pollo Loco or In & Out here.

Yes, I meant Daughters of the American Revolution. I was on my phone the first time I made this thread and typing was difficult I tried doing a Google search, but it's hard without going to a meeting to know if you are going to like the chapter.

No El Pollo Loco either? Dang. I knew about In-N-Out. Thanks for all the advice so far!

I looked up DAR and found several chapters here in Knoxville, should have no problem finding one you like. There are also Daughters of the Confederacy as well. This being a college town and a southern community there will be no shortage of people interested in history.

My wife and I moved here about 6 years ago from So Cal (Born and raised there).

As to moving bring what you need. Life here is slower and a bit more relaxed. I grew up in OC and love it, but hate the traffic, regulations, taxes and fees and crowding. TN is MUCH better.

Biggest difference is weather as it gets COLD here in Winter. Not like NY or Maine, but still cold. You will also have to adjust to the humidity, but that is not that hard to do. You will enjoy the 4 seasons, easy trips to other States with lots of things to see and do. People are friendly and if you speak of the beauty around you, then mention you are from CA, no big deal. Just don't look for or promote the intrusive socialism of CA.
