My daughter works in Asheville, NC and lives in Piney Flats, Tn. I know...a LOOONG drive to work and back. Her pay is almost doubled in North Carolina in her field (mental health, mental retardation, autism) than it is in TN. With the price of gas, it's a good thing they let her work from home on Tuesday and Friday, so she only drives three days a week and makes double the money than if she worked in TN. It's worth the drive. And she loves her job. If you love your job, that's gold. Also helps that it's a gorgeous drive on Rt. 26 into Asheville.

That is a long drive. An acquaintance of mine (in a pretty specialized field) lives near Morristown and works in Bristol TN. Another loooong drive, all up boring old I-81.

We are in Mountain City and we go to Bristol, Va(exit 7) once every 6 weeks or so. We love that exit. It has everything right in one area. Super-Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, Sam's, and a Tractor Supply. There are many other stores but those are the ones we use. We also go to Boone, NC sometimes for Lowes and a regular Wal-Mart. I don't like going there so much b/c Boone is a zoo.

I live in Bristol, Tennessee, about 9 miles south of the Virginia state line. I work in Virginia (less than a mile north of the state line) and if I am buying high priced items, I usually go on the VA side of the state to make purchases... lower taxes.

Also we have to go there if we go to Sams, or want to eat at a nice restaurant, since 98% of the full-service restaurants are in Bristol, VA. Bristol TN is hopeless in this area I guess? Never heard anything else about the Cheddars restaurant that was supposed to go in Bristol, TN. City is keeping them out I guess.

Seems like Bristol, VA has 100 FS restaurants, whereas Bristol, TN has what, about 5?
