I am going to Kansas City in July to see a friends band at The Riot Room on 4048 Broadway.
I live in Omaha NE and I have heard there are parts of KC to avoid at all costs, where the police will not even venture to if called.
Is this venue in a safe or rough part of town (south, west, east, north)?

It's in the heart of Midtown, very close to Westport.

39th and Broadway is a bit “shady”, but it’s far from being a bad area. It’s a major bus line intersection and there can be some intimidating people there at times, but I wouldn’t consider it ghetto or anything. It’s just “city”.

Regardless, Broadway in general is a decent main corridor through Midtown and it connects places like the Plaza, Westport and Downtown together.

I don’t know what the Riot Room is though. If it’s a nightclub that caters to the urban youth hip hop crowd, those places tend to have trouble late at night.

OK, the Riot Room is the old Hurricane in the heart of Westport. I forget how Broadway actually goes into Westport while the 4 lane arterial turns into JC Nichols Parkway.

That's a fine area. Actually it's very nice. The area is surrounded by apartments, condos, restaurants etc.

Westport can get pretty rowdy late (early) on the weekends, but it's an entertainment district at night. During the day, it's a nice urban neighborhood.

The Riot Room location is decidedly NOT an area to be afraid of, IMO. It's very mainstream.

If you're out late at night, it's at your own risk no matter where you are, though. There are jackasses and thugs that crawl out of the woodwork in the wee hours all over the city.

I've been to the riot room before and it's a pretty decent venue that area is not unsafe, as long as you're not walking around blinging all your valuable possessions in plain sight, I'm sure you'll be fine.
