My husband will be moving to KCMO in 3 weeks to start a new job. I will stay back to handle selling our house, etc. He will need to rent a room or a small FURNISHED studio apt. His job is downtown near River Market so something close by would be great. Since we are still paying a mortgage,we can't afford anything too expensive. I've checked out Extended Stay (anywhere from $32/night and up). On a monthly basis, this still comes out to WAY beyond our budget. (I realize this rate is dirt cheap but remember, we have an existing mortgage payment).

I wouldn't worry about it now. Plan on staying a week in the flop house motel; use that week to find something better. His coworkers will probably have the best advice, but once he gets here he can check out his coworkers recommendations or look on Kansas City craigslist to find something.
