I think I'm going to give up on finding accepting churches with younger adults in KC and just go someplace where I will be welcome. This has definitely changed my thoughts about staying here long term.
I'm assuming you're trying to find a church for community than anything else? I'm from the West Coast and live in KC and it seems rare for many people to attend church in more liberal parts of the country beyond the need for community. Nonetheless, I'm sure there is a mainline Protestant church in KC that you can find a fit in. An ELCA Lutheran church in the urban core, the Westport Presbyterian church, and an Episcopal church for example. In the end, I find this area to have give quite a bit of prominence to the Baptists and Evangelicals. I'm actually Catholic, but I can't think of many liberal parishes in the area, but I'm sure they exist.

I attend a liberal ELCA Lutheran church in KC that is designated RIC (Reconciling in Christ). Being a welcome, accepting community that is intentional about reaching out to people regardless of culture, race, ethnicity, orientation, sexual identity, age, socioeconomic status, etc. Is part of our mission statement.

Our church leadership, including our pastor, represent a range of orientations. Being gay is not something that would be an issue whatsoever. We are a warm, close community, we are not a megachurch, we are not specifically geared to a specific type or age of congregant, though we do have a number of Millennials represented, and I myself am in your approximate ashe range. But being diverse in age is as important to us as any other diversity. Cross-generational community is important, there.

If you're looking for a huge church, or one that's geared expressly for Millennials, it may not be what you're looking for. If you're looking for a warm, accepting, non-conservative place, that is, among other things, very GLBTQ, etc.- friendly, it may be.

Do you mind sharing the name of this church with us?

A friend of mine is about your age and very involved in the Episcopal church. It's inclusive. She lives in NKC but goes to one in Overland Park. If you want to know the specific one, just send me a message and I'll ask!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I figured it would be easy, so I've been surprised. Yes, I'm looking for community. In the past churches I've attended have had good groups and Bible studies. I've found it's very helpful to learn and serve with others, because I learn and grow more than I would just being alone. And I do like a broad age group, but the ones I have tried only had groups for families or seniors, so there was no where for me to fit in. I also like to do volunteer work through church, and so many here seem to do very little. I've got a few on my short list I am going to check out. I had hoped to be settled before Thanksgiving in a church, but I'm trying to be accepting that it's taking longer.

Yup. Haha I'm an atheist that lives kitty-corner from Jacob's Well....and it is a huge hopping church of fairly friendly considerate people. I'd probably join if I didn't die inside during the service.

You can find a lot of good churches, (non demoniational-evangical) in any of the MO suburbs and Jo County KS. Good people and good churches are out there. In the city proper, not many churches to choose from, same with WY county KS. Good luck, the churches are out there, most look like warehouses, unfortunately, the beautiful churches of KC are mainline-liberal, "non" church churches now.

You just keep coming up with new people to hate on, don't you? "Beautiful churches are not really churches..." Damn, kid.

You know, one of the definitions of a cult is that it tries to convince you that everyone whose viewpoint differs from yours is deceived. This is what's happening when you say that liberal Christians are not really Christians.

Mainline liberal churches are churches. They're just not churches you like.
