Hey guys, I'm a long time reader, first time poster. I moved to KC about 4 months ago after getting out of the Air Force and I've just accepted a position and am wondering where to live. I'm 21, and will make 50k a year. I'll begin my apartment hunt around December. From what I've read, my first guess to start looking is somewhere in the Westpot/ Downtown/ Plaza area. However, I still don't have a fix on what the whole urban environment actually is.

If you need more information from me, please don't hesitate to request.
Thanks,

Thr3C0

On $50,000 I would look at the upper Plaza or Brookside, depends on what kind of commute you can deal with. Are you looking for an apartment, condo or a house? Renting or buying?

Consider where you will be working and the commute. With a salary at that level the more costs you can save in regard to your transportation to work/shopping the better. You didn't mention children so I'm assuming schools are not your primary concern.

OP didn't mention kids. Only 21 years old...

Didn't I just write that?

I don't consider one who has already served in the Air Force as "only 21".

Thanks for the quick responses! As far as kids are concerned, I don't have any, and I don't plan on having any in the near future. However, my little brother is 9 years old, so he can fill that role!
Regarding my commute, I'll be working on Emmanuel Cleaver II Blvd, so I don't think transportation to and from work will be an issue. As far as the housing issue goes, I plan on renting for my first year in KC, and would prefer a place that is modern/ updated. So I'd probably have to go with either renting a condo, or living in an apartment. Any ideas on where to set my search?
Once again, thanks for your valuable input.

There are a number of condos in and around the Plaza, which would put you adjacent to Cleaver II.

Awesome! I've been looking around, and I found an apartment style I like. Its called the briarcliff city apartments, located in Briarcliff KC. From what I understand, this us located northof the river. Does anyone know of any apartments/condos that are similar in style/taste in the plaza area? The plaza has dozens of condos and apartments for rent, and I'm unsure as to where to start my search.
