Donelson County, Missouri, was all set to go.

The people wanted the county even though they already had a county. They had accomplished much campaigning, politicking, and organizing to get ready for the new jurisdiction.

Beforehand, the citizens even picked a sheriff, the county judges, and a full set of county officials.

The Missouri legislature even seemingly agreed with this new county and how it was to created.

However, when the day came for the Missouri legislature to vote, Donelson County lost out by one vote.

What town that we are all familiar with was picked by citizens to be the county seat?

Clues
1. The number 326+ has everything to do with this.
2. It is located in independence, missouri.
3. There is an indirect connection to the 38th largest city in missouri.
4.This thing of marble extends in one piece, perhaps, 2.5 feet into the ground.

Right you are. It is Lone Jack.

In the 1840s, Donelson was to be created from land in Jackson, Cass, Johnson, and Lafayette counties.

I have a feeling, the people in those areas thought they were step children and being neglected by their county seats.

You will have to check with MAD about any coupon.

That is a sensitive subject right now. I spent all day Tuesday waiting and salivating at Hi-Boy's, but Dallas never showed up to buy my dinner!

Is it a 326+ minute horse-back ride from Raymore, MO?

I am not sure if I have ever been to Raymore but I know I have never ridden a horse to anywhere from Raymore, so I could not answer that question.

This photo appeared in the December 8, 1894, issue of Scientific American.

The Elm tree is described as being two miles north of Independence, Mo, on the Captain L.P. Williamson farm. The trunk is 30 inches in diameter and the photo submitter, who was the head of the Independence Water Works, said that it could not be determined which side was the original root

From time to time we have posted the names of famous people from Independence.

I don't see where there has been any discussion posted of Arliss Howard. He was born in Independence in 1954 (probably at the Sanitarium) He is a graduate of Truman High School, and, among other roles, played Private Cowboy in Full Metal Jacket. He was also in one of the Jurassic movies. He is married to Debra Winger.
