His name “Petey” was mentioned as a druggist on, I think, the Green Acres television show as the local pharmacist. Paul Henning the show’s creator was from Independence. Petey was 38 at the time of sale in 1950 and he died in 1997.
Petey was married to Paul Hennings' sister, Drusilla. On The Beverly Hillbillies Granny called back home to Petey the pharmacist.

The Hennings home was razed to make room for the current US 24 Highway. It was at about Liberty & 24.

What "Cable" business did we have in Independence in 1959?

The lesser known of the Cable businesses back in 1959-60...

Fortunately this historic structure has been saved, restored, refurbished, and is now open for tours.

This is a cut and paste from Wikipedia:

"In 1957, Bartlesville was the test site for the first experiment in pay cable television.[7] The Bartlesville Telemovie System debuted with The Pajama Game, starring Doris Day, and aired it to an audience of 300 homes. The headline of the September 4, 1957 issue of Variety read "First-Run Films Now at Home".

Bartlesville, Oklahoma was the place. I recall the four guys in our little sophomore clique were all laughing about "Who is going to pay to watch TV" when you can watch all you want for free.

I had cable installed in my home in 1978 in a small town in southeast Kansas where I was living at the time. There were exactly 12 channels.

In 1980 in Colorado I had HBO only service in my place that was transmitted over the air waves to a special aerial in my house. Back then, the next movie started exactly when the previous movie credits ended. There was no advertising for upcoming movies, etc.

In 1983, I installed cable that had thirty six channels. A special 12 switch wired to the TV box was held in the lap at the end of the 10 foot or so wire. Each of the 12 switches could bring in three channels depending on the up, down, or "neutral" position of the switch. Each switch had three positions to bring in three channels. I dont recall how the switch you wanted to watch was isolated from the 11 others. There may have been another switch for that purpose.

A few years after that, cable went crazy with the number of channels offered, remote, etc.

While we are on the cable topic I'll toss a fairly easy question out.

What was the name of the first cable TV company in Independence?

It was a number of Independence business men that formed the cable company, but I cannot recall the company name.

That is correct. It was a mix of business men and regular Joe investors.

In 1971 a group of local investors formed Jackson County Cable Television. It first served Independence and the Lakewood portion of Lee's Summit (one of the large investors lived there).

In 1981 Landmark Communications purchased the system. Next it was sold to Jones Intercable, which was later bought by Comcast.
